I don't think you need technology to remind you that you have sinned!!!! Seriously, sometimes it is all like a big joke....and I also don't know how a Priest can forgive you for your sins even if you see one for real!!?
Reminders make us think of things out of our busy and obnoxious lifestyle. It doesn't matter what the resource is. For example remembering someone's birthday is very important but we forget that too.
Azaan is a reminder to us as well, doesn't matter if it comes from a minaar of a masjid or your closes smart phone.
