In some cases it is considered bad to look straight into the eyes of one's elders, for a long time, during a conversation. In other cases not looking into the eyes of the person is either considered a sign of guilt or lack of self confidence. Some people consider low gaze as sharmaing of dulhan. Some think of it as "narazgi".(not happy with anyone) Some avoid it when they lie.Others take alot of other meanings out of low gaze.

I personally feel difficult to look into the eyes of a stranger of opposite gender, if I am in a situation where it is not possible to avoid talking to her.Also when talking to elders.

I find it easy to look into the eyes of someone I have understanding with.

When do you find it easy or difficult to look into the eyes of the person you are talking to ?

My personal rule is that if it's a professional/academic setting, eye contact is definitely a plus. If it's a desi person, I wont do eye contact. I personally cannot make eye contact with either men or women, I just feel iffy
