We are looking for a live-in nanny who can take care of our 7 months old son. We’d prefer an older desi lady who can also pitch in some of the household stuff like cooking etc. Please send me a private message if you know someone who might be available. We have a three bedroom condo and can dedicate one room for such a person. We’ll even consider someone who is only available to commute and not live-in and can stay from morning till night. Have you advertised in the local masjids? If you don't mind a non muslim, but desi, do post in Gurudwaras. There are many sikh aunties who like this kind of work and are good at it.

Oh yes, I know people esp. doctors who have done this. Charge a lot though. $2000-2500 a month,less if lesser hours.

please post an ad on sulekha (sulukha.com). There are several elder desi aunties that post ads there for nanny services...some with experience (resume/referral wise) and others who just raised their own kids so are good with them....
Ask around in local masjid, are you in touch with people from local desi community? Ask around for a reputable person. PS. Are any one of your parents able to come stay with you guys for some time?

also advertise in desi magazines, sulekha (as Afro mentioned) and care.com (you can specify as desi person on there). You could put flyers in the masjids / and local newspapers.
My friends in South Jersey have had no problems finding a reliable desi person for their childcare/house needs.
