Long term contraception.

Ladies what is your most preferable method of contraception for longterms. For those who do not want to have kids for say five years what is that you use?
Or if you are married with kids and feel that your family is complete what do you do to make sure that you wont get any surprises along the way.
Is there any side effects of your contraception that you personally experienced or know of?

Re: Long term contraception.

I would recomend an IUC called Mirena through personal experience.

What is Mirena®?
Imagine having hassle-free birth control for up to 5 years (or less, if you choose).1 Birth control that, once removed, allows you to try to become pregnant right away and adapts to your contraceptive needs throughout the different stages of your life. That’s Mirena®, an estrogen-free intrauterine contraceptive (IUC) that delivers small amounts of hormone directly to the uterus. Other benefits of Mirena®:

99.9% effective in preventing pregnancy for up to 5 years (or less, if you choose)1
Provides lower and steadier hormones than the Pill
Won’t cause significant weight gain2
Easily removed with quick return to fertility1
May also help shorten, lighten or even eliminate periods3

^ what I was gonna say :)

Re: Long term contraception.

Does anyone went through a very long period(Never ending spottings) after using this IUD?

Re: Long term contraception.

I duno bout you guys but there is no way Im having a doc put a foriegn object in me.

Re: Long term contraception.

it seems normal to have spotting after the IUC is placed - if the spotting gets heavier and causes discomfort u shud deff go back and consult with ur doctor!

Re: Long term contraception.

i’ve heard it hurts initially when its put in?

also, how reliable are iud’s? my aunt got preggo while having one-- she was not amused.

there’s also Norplant/Jadelle… its meant to last for 5 years at a time and is implanted in your upper arm.

Re: Long term contraception.

Ladies be really careful of Norplant and Depo-Provera. Many women have severe difficulty returning to fertility after using these. I spoke with so many of these women as we all sadly sat in the waiting room of an infertility specialist.

^I think you're totally right! The thing is placed so that the hormones are released in ur uterus. If you plan to have kids later on, this is def. not the way.

So I am assumig most of us are on the pill.

Re: Long term contraception.

The pill is the most convenient. A friend likes DepoProvera (the shot), but personally I do not know much about it,

Re: Long term contraception.

The depo-provera shot is what caused my infertility. And there were many women at the specialist's office in the same boat as me. When you "shut down" your system, it sometimes cannot start back up. The pill keeps you on a regular schedule and it has been in use for decades so the side effects are well-known. These new drugs, especially the ones that shut down your system, not only have more bad effects than are actually reported but its also really unknown as to what the long-term effects could be.

^how exactly does the deprova shot work

Thanks for pointing that out. I should let my friend know as she is planning on having more children later.

Re: Long term contraception.

I was talking to a few married woman at a davaat the other day and I heard so many stories about women taking low dose or what they thought to be "safe" pills. But when they actually tried to conceive nothing was working and supposedly its creating a big problem for many women these days. Strange but true?
