I think if its for your wedding day, you should go with a shorter shirt. I know the longer shirts are in fashion right now, but if you think about it, lots of designers still make the traditional lengthed shirts and many also include the shorter shirts into their collections---there's a lot of versatility in the fashion industry. So I wouldn't worry too much about the latest trends--you never know when they're going to change.
That being said, the reason a shorter shirt looks nice when you are short, is because of how it elongates your legs. I'm 5'2 and I've thought this through many times..I've tried on quite a few lehngas and I just end up looking stubbier with the longer khameezes. I'd say that keep the khameez length up to your hips. Anything too short will make your torso look too small and you don't want that either, especially if you are top-heavy.
Hmm firstly im not tall either and to be honest i dont like the long shirt for a bridal look.
In the UK short tops is still the trend, from what iv seen.. so iv gone for a fishtail with a short top which compliments my figure/height well.. i was bit paranoid thinkin if it'l look right but regardless of ur height, long as your outfit compliments ur shape, u can get it away with it. Im not chubby but I have bust and bum so my lengha kind works out around that.
Plus ur dupatta setting needs to be right otherwise it can make ur lengha look bit weird !
If u wana have a more slim/tall appearance then try gettin vertical designs on your lengha.
Ok girls I'm curvy so I'm always in trouble with hips looking too or boobies on show, ugh.
I tried on the short top lengha's and even though my stomach is flat I just didnt think they complimented my figure at all. I just looked stumpy. I personally think the long shirts
a. make you feel alot more covered and comfortable if your not a size zero girl
b. compliment the curvier/pairshaped figure alot more
c. in regards to the long shirts being out of fashion ell you can always chp it off in the future to make it small.
d. NEVER go for a fishtail if you have beyonce hips you will just look wide. For the slim girl it looks great.
DB Its all about what suits you and LESS about is or isnt in fashion. You could walk in rocking a 5 year old fashion piece and look so good that brides start copying!
My bharat outfit is a floor gown with a banarsi farshi lengha. Like the HSY ribbon dress but in deep red.
DB You mean the gold one you sent me yday right? Yeh did you not get my reply? I said I really like it in theory but when you get it made get the karigar to make a few different kaam samples on the colour you want so that you can choose what you like the most.
Yeh sorry fishtail is a mermaid type lengha
Trail lengha is a farshi lengha thats what I am having :)
Ok english people really dig the whole big boobs big bum thing but people like me are considered FAT in Pakistan. Also tanned skin is considered hot here in Pakistan its called 'not pretty' LOL... sheesh :(
DB why is your MIL getting them made? Is it like a tradition thing?
HAHA... same here American guys like curvy tan girls, and desi guys like their girls looking like a stick... Im curvy as well.
I am asking my MIL to get them made because she lives in Pakistan currently, and if I give her all the info and materials I think everything should go smoothly.
DB where in Pakistan is she? If you need advise on a good karigar then I may be able to help as we have a family one (used them since my nani's wedding!)
Yeh it should be fine doing it that way! I would recommend trying to find a lengha in the actual colour you want so that you can visualise it properly/have a realistic idea of it or send your MIL the photo of the lengha you want and ask the karigar to send you samples to choose from.
uhm so basically forget about Fistail/Mermaid Lehnga for shorties like us. :(
Straight Lehenga is not in fashion as they r so many designs with it now.
For my gharara i am thinking about getting long shirt, may b 5 - 6 inches higher than my knees and then the gharara should have border on the chuntain which will b on top of me knees.
What about Trail lengha /farshi for short girls? I was considering that with 3-4 inch heels.
Hey DB! I am actually 5'1 and my valima lehnga has a trail. I had tried it on and it looks absolutely fine for my height. I also was contemplating the length of my shirt and I am keeping it at my thighs. I wanted to try and stay with the trends but then I also wanted my dress to be timeless. I could of gone a little longer, even to my knees but I decided to keep it at that length, practical is good but then I also don't want to wear out my dress, I want to keep it like my mom kept hers for me. :) I feel like the length at my thighs is perfect for me.
But I don't think there is anything wrong with going a bit longer DB, I have a picture in here somewhere in my computer of a bride that was wearing a longer shirt and she looks pretty short, but it still looks really nice. She is also on the healthier side but she looks just as nice! hmmm let me try to dig it up!
