When you bet on stocks to go up you are long that stock, when you bet on it going down you are short that stock and make money when it goes down. Federal reserve sometimes intervenes thru their monetary policy.

To add, when you r long, the most u lose is ur investment. When u short a stock, you can lose ur investment. And ur shorts.

Southie, Fed supersedes the tape any day any time, I firmly believe that it is their mandate to make the markets go up, the commercial banks are still on the verge of collapse and they are investing trillions in the market and reaping the benefits of a staged bull market. Many home builders stocks had gains of 400 to 500 percent, look at PHM, Toll and I believe DRh for Dr Horton, I had purchased BRP at 7 and am kicking myself for selling at 14, I re bought at 19.65. It is a long term play and I believe I will make 50 percent in a year. I know their business really well. They own 100k residential lots in Alberta which is one of the hottest Real Estate Market right now and builders have waiting lists and have raised prices continuously. Short term will be under pressure but mid to long term doubles, their ttm PE is 14, I think they will have a blowout earning, float is very small, most of the stock is owned by institution, we just approved the pipelines and population is exploding. Analysts are negative but these guys are a joke and hardly ever right.

here the tape is also indicating mkt is strong. So don’t fight the tape don’t fight the trend all mean same thing. Up up up. Buy buy buy. Feds actions also indicate same. But I am cautious.

Home Builders r dangerous at this stage. Probably at peak earnings. Classic cyclicals.
