long lasting pressed powder

Well whenever I apply pressed powder it usually vanishes after a couple of hours or so. The blush and other things stay but the powder wouldnt. So is there anything I am missing? Maybe the technique of how to apply the powder or the quantity of it? Or is this something about the skin? I do not apply moisturizer before applying the base. Does that account for the quick vanishing powder? Well I dont know and I need help :frowning:
Please share if there are any techniques for long lasting pressed powder on face and if I am missing anything.

Thank you.

Re: long lasting pressed powder

try putting face primer on before hand - MAC's primer is really good. It primes your skin so the make up 'sticks' to your face better.

Re: long lasting pressed powder

Alright but what if I cannot arrange any primer as yet? Not today atleast. Do we have any replacement for MAC’ face primer? :vivo:

Re: long lasting pressed powder

Do you apply a foundation before the pressed powder? To me pressed powder isn't supposed to last long on its own, its used a setting powder for foundation. Mineral powders are good powders that last well on their own. I also find that MAC Careblend pressed powder lasts a decent time on it's own too. Also applying it with a kabuki brush gives better coverage helps work it into the skin to last longer.

Re: long lasting pressed powder

MAC is a great face primer, but if you don’t have one, most face moisturisers work quite well too. I don’t know where you live, but in the UK if you buy moisturisers like Johnsons day cream, or Oil of Olay day cream - they work almost just as well as make up primers.

It’s about applying some kind of base to your face for the make up to hang on to. Dermologica also have this clear gel type thing which is supposed to protect your face from pollution etc, but also works well as a primer too IMO if you have access to that.

HTH?

Re: long lasting pressed powder

Pressed powders usually have sheer coverage, but there are powders out there that have buildable coverage or full coverage.
If you are using pressed powder on its own (without foundation), you should apply it on a well moisturized & primed skin.

Or you can try pressed powder foundations (can be applied dry for light coverage or wet for full coverage)- they have buildable coverage and will last longer. Make Up Forever, MAC, Cover FX, and Laura Mercier have good ones.

Re: long lasting pressed powder

DO you dust the powder on with a big brush? I find the way to make a powder last the longest is to press and roll it in with a velour puff. Just swirl the left-over powder from the lid and roll the powder into the puff so it's pushed into the puff and then press and roll it on the skin. It works a lot better than swirling it on, you can additionally swirl it on AFTER you've pressed it but your first step should be with a puff.

Re: long lasting pressed powder

That was helpful really. Well I do have moisturizers like Olay and all that. Alright I got the idea. You shouldnt be applying pressed powder on to the bare skin. hmmm.

Re: long lasting pressed powder

Aww thanks M for pointing at the technique, I guess I lack actually. Even youtube doesnt help much. There was this video where the lady trying to teach how to apply the powder was patting the puff on to the face, which when I tried, I didnt find much helping as it rather creates smudges. I use the method of press and roll as you just mentioned. Do I have to use brush too, for sprinkling and blending some loose powder? Wouldnt that be rather over done?

Take a look at this:

The reason it probably created smudges was because the powder was probably sitting on top of the puff, that’s why I mention rubbing the puff together to push the powder into the puff so there isn’t much product sitting on top. The powder goes on evenly as well, I learnt this technique from the video I linked above and it’s been the best way to set makeup/especially concealer since then.

You can additionally also brush some powder on after if you want more coverage or oil control but remember to dust off the excess with brush so it doesn’t look cakey. Personally, the puff-method is perfect for me since I dont use powder for coverage anyway.

mac's studio fx does the trick

Re: long lasting pressed powder

Try Anna Sui's Moisturizing Powder Foundation, has very nice coverage and lasts whole day, and it smells so good :)
