Triple jump is a step child in Field events, with the Long Jump gaining all the notoriety. The great Jesse Owen and the King Carl Lewis come to mind. While little known Bob Beaman holds the modern era record. ( Readers who follow this column know who holds the all-time long jump record.

While Triple jump is an after thought in modern day sports, this was far from the case a few thousand years ago. Vaman obliterated all sorts of records by covering the entire earth with his first step, and the universe with his second. (Yes Aaliya, His paws dwarfed those of the Polar Bear).

The 3rd step had no room to land. Till the event organizer, Maha Bali, offered his head as the runway.

I was gonna say vaman is in different event than marutii, triple jump and long jump. but you get the drift.
