Re: Long distance learning , pros and cons
Is this one or two courses we're taking online or a whole program?
I don't think I could do a whole university degree online. But if it's a course or two to enhance my education or for a specific certification then that is fine.
Pros to online/distant learning:
- you can work at your own pace
-can continue with your regular life/work while still being in school
-some courses tend to be easier as you don't have labs or hands-on components, it can strictly be theory and memorization of concepts
-can be cheaper in some cases
- no commuting/re-location
Cons to online/distant learning:
-hard to stay focused/motivated as you don't have the traditional class set-up
-harder to make connections in the field as you're not interacting with profs/classmates, other faculty
-some online degrees/programs are not recognized by potential employers so you have to be careful that the courses you're taking and the college/university you are enrolled in is accredited.
Re: Long distance learning , pros and cons
Agreed . By long distance I also mean when people are international based and its difficult for them to even attend a quarterly class even .
I also feel one of the biggest cons is not being able to get to know other students . Creating online environment can be tough ..
