long distance games

yeah the title may make you think of long distance romantic relationships and mind games but thats not what this is about.

I am looking for recommendations on 2 or multiplayer online games? preferably something where people dont have to be online at the same time (can be if they want but dont have to be) to account for schedules and timezones.

I have hard about online chess, scrabble, etc… you guys have any recommendations?

can be for adults as well as for children.

Re: long distance games

How do you expect two or more players to Chess or Scrabble without being online simultaneously? In terms of what you're describing, two types of games come to mind--persistent world MMO games, where stuff happens whether you're logged in or not. Some examples are Star Wars the Old Republic and Eve Online. If I'm not mistaken, World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV both have persistent worlds as well.

Also some social games, where you could send in game items to someone and they'll get it whenever they log in. These include Farmville and its many clones.

And don’t forget the fact it’s posted to Relationships forum. #mindgames](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=mindgames)

Re: long distance games

The reason is to have an ongoing 1-1 game between my dad and myself, or multiplayer game between my dad and us siblings who are in 4 different places, thus the choice of the forum.

Re: long distance games

I guess in my view its easy, chess you can decide how much time a person has to make a move once they see a move made. same with scrabble. so if i make a move and you see it right away you have a minute to make a move, if you see it 2 days later you still have a minute to make a move.

Scrabble could be a little tougher but similarly you have x minutes to complete your word once you see what the other person did. honor system so you dont go looking at dictionaries meanwhile.

for all I care it can even be an online ludo game :)

the more modern multiplayer games are not my dad's cup of tea so we may get him into it later, for now I wanted to get something basic going.

Re: long distance games

Right, well now that you've mentioned what type of thing you're looking for, I don't know of anything like that. If everyone were to leave a game of chess, ludo or scrabble online, I don't know of any that would maintain their state with nobody logged in. It wouldn't be all that hard to develop but I don't know of anything like it out there already.

Re: long distance games

aside from that, any experience with a real time connected multiplayer ludo game? :)

btw we can move it to games section if needed.

Re: long distance games

How about real time snooker?

8 Ball Pool - A free Sports Game

or just play COD and see who rages first.
