London Wedding - help needed :)

Hi guys

I’m getting married, Inshallah, beginning of next year but have no idea where to start.
I would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out with the following (wedding is in London)

  1. Venues - in London preferably
  2. Photographer - want someone amazing and different - no “typical posing” photos - can’t stand them…
  3. Videographer - again, someone with decent, original work
  4. DJ - no typical, old indian songs - someone that plays decent and recent music, with some of the golden oldies thrown in
  5. Wedding planners
  6. Flowers / mehndi plates - can you get them ready made in London

Yep, so basically i’m pretty clueless… would really really appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks soooo much!!

  1. venues are many to be chosen from. Hotels, private banqueting halls, what are you looking for ? and what is your budget ? it all depends on that

  2. There is Osman Ghani, east west photographers etc. But i know they charge alot.

  3. Bloomsbury films, are good, but again expensive if you go for the cinematography package.

  4. I know a DJ, who is quite good, i can pm you his details if you want to.

  5. hmm have to think about this one.

  6. this one girl mentioned a place called chaand bazaar who recently started their business, i think they said they advertised in the classified ads section, check them out

Hope it helped slightly:)

Re: London Wedding - help needed :)

I am in the process of booking my weding venue for the baraat day in London, and absolutely love the following: -

~ The Radisson Edwardian - Bath road (Heathrow): LOVE this place, but unfortunately 4K out of my budget.

~ The Hyatt Regency (The Churchill) - Portsman Square.

Some catering companies that I would suggest:

~ Sapna's Catering - I am probably going to book them. I went for a food sampling, and mashallah food was really nice :)

~ Shaziana Catering - The Director Samira is a bit full of her self, but has a good eye for detail.

~ Madhu's - Very well established company, and therefore the price reflects that

Re: London Wedding - help needed :)

hey posho,

how much is the Hyatt Regency costing ?

And how much was the Radisson ?

thanks

Re: London Wedding - help needed :)

Thanks for the help guys... very much appreciated.

Posho, even though Madhu's has a very good reputation... i'm not overly keen on their food... it is nice but nothing special.... with them, you are paying more for the name.
Have you booked your photographer / videographer?? Who are you going with? I really like the look of Bloomsbury (thanks for ALL the suggestions Reality_Check.... :) )

Locationwise, i'm thinking of either The Dorchester or Natural History Museum.... but am still looking.... like the idea of a marquee in some nice historical grounds but it's going to be winter when I get married so maybe not.... (as want an evening wedding)

Who you looking at for makeup??? and DJs..... anyone have any suggestions for DJs??? Want someone who plays decent, recent music.... dont' want the "clubby" feel though as you get with some DJs who think the wedding is all about them!! Just want som DECENT music on in the background.....

Re: London Wedding - help needed :)

Posho, I went to a wedding in Radisson on Bath road recently, the venue was beautiful but the catering terrible. The problem hotel's is they're tied up with caterers so you need to check which catering firms they use/allow before booking.

Renaissance on Bath Road is also lovely- you can use Sapna there.

Innaya, when I booked my venue parking was essential, so whilst Dorchester and Natural History Museum are beautiful venues, parking is an issue. But if that's not a high priority for you then both venues are stunning. I do know that you can arrange some parking for Natural History Museum in the neighbouring Imperial Uni, but it's still a walk. If your keen on an historical venuewhy not try the V&A? Or something a bit alternative and book the Science Museum - there's one area where they have a 'star studded' ceiling, it may be the Wellcome Wing. Or how about Kew Gardens?

Re: London Wedding - help needed :)

Radisson Heathrow based on 200 people was 16-17K. This includes the venue hire, catering, table linen, crockery, cutlery etc. I think it's an absolute fantastic location, as it was easily accessible for my guests, and there is ample parking. However, I can't justify spending that much on a Hotel, when I could quite easily book a 5 star Hotel in CENTRAL London for a few grand more.

The Hyatt regency based on 200 people is about 11-12K. The only problem is it does not have any parking facilities whatsoever, other than an NCP adjacent to it, which charges £5 per hour per car!!! That is extortionate. It is on the portsman square, and as much is there is alot of "bays" free after 6pm, Oxford Street is nearby and therefore you have no guarantee your guests will have available spaces. The worst thing is paying so much for a luxurious hotel, but having to put up with guest complaints on lack of parking!! The Hotel itself is very compact, and has a grand, classical feel with opulence furnishing. The Hotel provides a 5 star service, and the staff there are exceptionally polite. They give you use of the "Library" for evening drinks and "The Chartwell Suite" for the event. Please bear in mind the suite only holds 250 - this allows enough "elbow" space. It was my second choice from Radisson Edwardian, but the parking is deterring me.

Although Renaissance has had a 1.4 million refurbishment, its a shame they couldn't give the exterior a "lick" of pain! Its so ugly from the outside. The lobby is very large and accomodating, however, the Suite itself wasn't anything special. The carpet was blue!! :$

I am probably going to end up booking Mariott Hotel in Heathrow (Bath Road) - You are given a whole floor!! The Lobby is HUGE. Its not bad, and relatively new. Plus point - no parking issues!!

I am using Sapna's as my catering company. I liked their level of service. I have been for a tasting session, and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Also, my sister in law has attended five weddings who have used Sapna's and she said each and every wedding was very well organised and managed. Food was amazing each time too! <3

In regards to Photography. I am looking into booking AKS Photography. Bloomsbury don't really appeal to me!

Make up - I am looking into Saira Hussain or Nini Bhogal. still weighing up my options.

Dj's - haven't got the foggiest - but looking into "Kudo's Entertainment - DJ H".

Hope that helps hun!

I know so much info, but I'm in the same boat have been doing lots of researching and have been to many "on-site" views on the above mentioned Hotels.

Good luck
