London - UK help needed

Salam guppies,
We InshALLAH have an 8 hour layover in London Heathrow and travelling with two kids. We would like suggestions on nice cheap restaurants and possibly a park near the airport where the kids can run and be tired so they sleep on the next flight.

On our way back we have a 4 day stay. Pls recommend things to do, places to visit and eat at. We will be with kids. We wanna get tge real experience of London.
We will be staying in Southall if that helps

Re: London - UK help needed

I hope more guppies would come up with suggestions..here's what I can think of right now:

parks near Heathrow: there are no parks on walking distance near the Heathrow airport. You either need to take a bus or a taxi to get to the parks.

Although, you can take a bus from the airport to Southall...plenty of cheap places to eat and a nice big park called Southall Park for kids to play. It has newly installed outdoor gym and kids play area..and it's quite close to the restaurants and take away shops.

the places I'd recommend to go to:

Central London: Natural History Museum (free entrance), The Art Gallery, Madam Tussauds, Science Museum, Harrods. British Museum is a bit further but worth visiting.

British Library

Windsor Castle and the lake....not far from Southall.

Kew gardens.

Richmond Park

London Butterfly House in Brent...kids will love it.

Re: London - UK help needed

Quite a few restaurants in Southall e.g. TKC and Mirch Masala. Southall Restaurants - Middlesex

Return trip wise:

Go to the theatre (kids go free in August Kids Week 2013)
Visit Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle - advanced booking recommended for Palace royalcollection.org.uk
Natural History Museum, Science Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington
If the weather is good Hyde Park or Regents park - go on the peddle boats
Visit Harrods in Knightbridge or Selfridges on Oxford Street
London Eye or The Shard for London views
London Bus Tours and river cruises
Walk down the Southbank and Covent Garden market
Greenwich market, park and The Royal Observatory with the GMT line
Watch a play at the Globe Theatre.

You’ll probably need to get a couple of Oyster cards for public transport. Kids under 11 go free on bus and tube. Kids under 18 but over 11 go free on bus but may require a photo oyster card. Use tfl journey planner to plan your public transport journeys

Enjoy!
