London to Liverpool

This is a question for the UK Guppies:

We will be visiting the UK next month. The best flights I can get are into London Stansted, which is ok because my cousin lives 20 minutes from the airport. However we also want to visit Liverpool during this trip. And the train tickets to Liverpool are ridiculously expensive.

Renting a car is an option I am considering. But is there any other economically feasible way to make that trip? Ideally from Stansted to Liverpool, but London to Liverpool would be OK too.

Re: London to Liverpool

You can check the cheapest bus service from London Victoria to Liverpool.

https://uk.megabus.com

A bit expensive though National Express.

Alternatively you can book a minicab from the place you will stay in London. (this could be cheaper if you are 4 persons traveling.

Re: London to Liverpool

I always use Megabus If I have to visit - Manchester, Cardiff or other places.

Re: London to Liverpool

Bus service is also directly from London Stansted as well.

Re: London to Liverpool

Hire a car, especially if you have kids. It will give you the chance to explore any places on the way and you won't have to worry about getting around on the other end.

Re: London to Liverpool

We ended up booking a flight to Manchester, because all other options just seemed to be too much of a hassle. From there it's just half an hour to Liverpool.

But thanks for the tips.
