Why the heck is the Pakistani Film Industry called “Lollywood”? :yukh:
It’s bad enough that the Indians copied Hollywood by naming their own Bollywood, but why did Pakistan have to follow suite and give its own an incredibly ugly and embarassing name? ![]()
B = bombay
L = lahore
From what I've read on the topic. Maybe there's something else behind it. I agree - its not classy.
larki let me explain, it all started when a couple of years back the mass-media coined the term Bollywood. None of the stars working in the indian film industry called it Bollywood - it is just a term which caught on with the Westerners and Pakistan being the mug that it unfortunately followed suit by naming their film industry lollywood!!!

p.s " did u know the term bollywood has even entered the oxford dictionary "

thanks for the explanation, though i still think something should be done about changing the disgusting title "lollywood" into something else...even something as lame as "The Pakistani Film Industry" sounds better than "Lollywood"...anyway, i doubt that anything can be done about it now. :(
bollywood has gotten extremely popular within the past couple of years, which is why i'm not surprised to learn it made it to the oxford dictionary.
i never even imagined that canadian movie theatres (apart from the ones in toronto, because that place is filled with immigrants) would start playing indian movies like normal n.american movies...i think they got popular after "bollywood/hollywood" was shown as it made people aware of bollywood even though it was a canadian production.
if u really look at it pakistan doesnt even deserve to say it has a "film industry" :) quite frankly, its embarassing and then to try and copy india, well what the hell were we thinking? yeah, bollywood is becoming really mainstream here in canada, i dont know about the states, but over here u can watch films at like famous players and cineplex odeon.. maybe pakistani dramas will become a craze too but i dont see gorray sitting in the theatre for 8 hrs
yeah you're right about pakistan not even deserving to say it has a film industry. :)
hey since you're from canada too, you know what i don't get -- when desis go to watch indian movies at the theatres when they can rent it on video for like $1. amc's expensive compared to guzzo, famous players, or even cinaplex odeon, and that's what plays the most indian movies...in my city anyway. compare spending ~$10/person to ~$1...i get the cinema experience is different but personally i don't think it's worth it for an indian movie.
