Has anyone seen either of the two versions, or read the book? I couldn’t get to sleep the other day and came across the 1997 version whilst channel surfing. It’s basically about this middle aged man who falls for his 14 year old step daughter.
My first impression was eughhh, this is so sick, but the more I saw it, the more I got drawn into the story. I really felt for the characters, especially Doloris (the young girl). I even felt sympathy for the father … I think he was mostly attracted to Doloris because of what she represented, youth and freedom.
When the film finished, it said something about how Doloris and her father died, so I assume the book is based on a true story(?). I’ve tried searching the net for clarification but everytime I type Lolita it gives me a load of porn sites
There is agreat book out called "Reading Lolita in Iran" or something. Amazing read of this girls group in Teheran that meets secretly and reads the novel. You woul denjoy it.
ive seen it and it has its dark aspect n to some degree it gave the impression that although she was 14 and young and free, she was very much in control of her sexuality. i think, maybe just maybe her affair with her stepdad was more for serving the purpose of conquering than love and a bit of envy. It could be that she wanted to outdo her mother. k ill stop babbling. (good idea isnt it???) dont answer that!!
lol... hes not hangin out in the general anymore??? shoo sadd...
last time i saw him, he was sportin the larki wala icon.. u generallies Drove him to that dint U??

Isn't this the same real life case of Joey Buttafucas, a high school teacher in love with a minor. I think Lolita tries to kill Joey's wife.
Am I right or completely off the mark.

The girl in teh Joey Buttafucco case was Amy Fisher, and she got hte nickname "Long Island Lolita" coz of her age and she shot Buttafucco's wife. Im sure the story came before the incident..
Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.
She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.
Did she have a precursor? She did, indeed she did. In point of fact, there might have been no Lolita at all had I not loved, one summer, a certain initial girl-child. In a princedom by the sea. Oh when? About as many years before Lolita was born as my age was that summer. You can always count on a murderer for a fancy prose style.
I thought it was a pretty good movie. And what’s up with this all feeling bad for the girl? She friggin’ seduced the old man. She deserved it. At least the guy had a more unconniving obsessive passion. It’s bad but it’s not evil.
Yeh I saw one of those made for the telly type film about Amy Fisher a few months ago … what a waste of 2 hours
Spock, I thought Kubrick’s version was meant to be dire?
Romz, OK OK, I admit it … I actually felt sorry for the dad but I was too scared to say it incase anyone from work read this and thought I was OKaying sex with a minor. I do still feel for Doloris though … she wanted love and affection, and the only way she thought she could get it was by using her sexuality … all they both wanted was a big hug
Oh and by the way, you’re not allowed to like the same films as me … infact, you’re not even allowed to * watch * the same film as me
