I'm hearing this idiom 'logon ki jadon main pani daalna' first time. the commonly used idioms in Urdu are:
(1) Jadon main beth jana (means have a strong position)
(2) jadon se ukad dena (means destroy the roots of someone / something)
The idiom used in the sentence you posted probably mean: You will win the hearts of people if you do this and don't do this.

Jordon mein paani daalna means: to make someone lazy or less active in something, as far I knw.
