Why Chest B:
If we pick from Chest B, and it is a silver coin, then we are in the first option, and thus Chest C will have “100 gold coins”.
If we pick from Chest B, and it is a gold coin, then we are in the second option, and thus Chest B will have “100 gold coins”.

Thus, by picking from Chest B, we can conclude which Chest will have the gold coins.

So here is another one. Should be easy.

Andrew and Bob are talking to each other. One of them is wearing a red shirt and the other is wearing a blue shirt.

The guy in the blue shirt says “I am Andrew”.
The guy in the red shirt says “I am Bob”.

If we know that at least one of them lied, what is the color of the shirt that Andrew is wearing?

For some reason, whenever i see such questions the first thing come to my mind is digital logic design and AND, OR, NOT gates.

Anyways, on to the answer.

The answer would be **RED

**Here is why

First thing to notice is that you said "at least" one of them is lying. So we will keep in mind as i explain.

Use case 1: When the guy in red shirt is lying (Bob)
So if the guy in red shirt (Bob) is lying then it means that he is not Bob, be must be Andrew then and it can't be possible that both of them are Andrews.

Use Case 2: When the guy in blue shirt is lying (Andrew)
Which would mean that the guy in blue shirt is Bob. So if the guy in blue shirt is Bob and the guy in Red shirt is bob too then who is the Andrew ? So the questions fails here.

Use Case 3: Both are lying
Which means the one who is wearing red is actually Andrew since he lied that "I am Bob".

So, I will start with a simple one.

There is a king who has 1000g of gold. He wants to convert this gold into coins. So he calls all goldsmith of his area and gives them 100g of gold each. He orders them to make 10 coins of 10g each. One of the goldsmith thinks that no one is going to notice if he makes 10 coins of 9g each.

At 10th day, each goldsmith comes to the king with their bags which contains 10 coins of 10g each. Only of the goldsmith has 10 coins of 9g each. Now which one is he, no one knows.

King has one digital scale which can give king ONLY ONE READING. Now how can king figure out which goldsmith made 10 coins of 9g each ?

One clarification. The king can use scale for only one reading or in other terms, he can use the scale only once to note only one reading

we know "atleast" one is lying. since there are only two ppl here if one is lying the other would be lying as well. the answer is RED.

Now there are 2-3 things coming in mind for this but the quicker answer would be, since the scale has the capability of giving only one reading than all king needs to do is to setup scale at 9g and whoever matches the scale is culprit.

Now if thats not true i must hv misunderstood the question :yawn:

but he can take ONLY ONE READING. which means once he is done taking the reading of 1st goldsmith, he can’t take the reading of the reamining goldsmits.

or in other terms, he can use the scale only once to note only one reading

had read a few years back so I know the answer
mark the bags from the goldsmith as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
pick the 1 coin , 2 coins , 3 coins... from these bags.

when all the coins are weighed the total weight should be 55 - the amount by which the actual total weight is short will identify the thief.

which means at 10th day the goldsmith with bag which contains 10 coins of 9g each wont show up. Hence he's the one.
OR
the answer may lie in 10th day as well. Since the scale can only be done once, they do it once very day till 10th day and in one of those readings they'll find the coins with 9g each.
But i'll pick the first answer as the favourite

sorry misread your question as 10 coins of 1 g each hence the total weight came to be 55..

so he will pick 55 coins total - so the weight should 550 g

now if the goldsmith no 5 is the thief - then then the shortfall should be 5g hence the total weight would be 545.

If the guy in the red shirt is lying, so is the guy in the blue shirt. So, if they're lying, switch their names. If they're telling the truth then no one is lying. If the guy in the blue shirt is lying then he's not really Andrew. This makes the one wearing red Andrew.

how wouldn't he show up ? the "10th" day has nothing to do with the question @bitter has already solved it. Think about how would you index an object. Think about very layman indexing solution and for hat you don't need days. all you need is your objects which are the coins in the bag
