That's the easy way out. Other countries avoided these pitfalls post-colonisation. India, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.
Interestingly, the article in the opening post offers lots of criticism, but doesn't once say what should have been done instead and what the consequences of that would have been.
