Is it used throughout india? If not, then which areas use alternative methods. Does it have different names?

Yes we use the lotta or whatever....Paper makes me sick..I just cant handle it when I travel.

not only india, many other asian countires do..
even in usa we use it , papers are not good..

I have already asked this question before, and often wonder the same thing. I know it's used in India, but I have never heard Indians make jokes about it. Maybe they have a better taste in humor. But I have never heard any Indian complain about lack of lota, while many Pakistanis do. One of my main reasons for moving out of dormitory was .. never mind!!!

I hope they use a lotta. I read an article not long ago that examined bathroom habits particularly the use of toilet paper. And it was found (after lab results) that people who ONLY used toilet paper to wipe themselves had traces of invisible fecal (fancy word for poop) bacteria on their underwear. Pretty nasty, eh?

Yes lota is the preferred method of eliminating residue after elimination of human waste:chai: even in India. Only a few “maadern” households have completely switched to toilet paper. Crazy bums.

Keep the nails short/scrub them.. and obviously those who use lotta should wash their hands. Washing your hands will eliminate the bacteria on hands.....however not using lotta....means you're going throughout the day with fecal bacteria attached to your private parts.

Yes it is used in india ..but now in pak and other countries lotta has been replaced by muslim showers.
besides keeping nails trim etc... better apply the water first then use hand or tissue. germs free.
