Locked Femoral Nailing

There is a little problem. My Cousin faces a severe accident few months ago. It was a crushing injury with skin and tissues loss with multiple fractures on leg.Orthopedic Surgeon used the locked femoral nailing putting steel rod inside the leg. Problem is after 4 months he still a bit limp while walking with pain in the leg. Another Doctor after examining X-rays found that minor fracture is not nailed properly , alingnment of the rod is a bit wrong, may be boring of the is not done straightly . Doc advised either to wait for 3 or 4 months or have a new operation to undo all and new femoral nailing, but its hard with patient plus financial expenses a lot.

Can anyone plz. tell what to do in such situations. Either bones fractures auto recover themselves or new operation is must if alingment of the rod is not correct. Can anything will help without operating the leg and whole procedure again ?

Regards

Re: Locked Femoral Nailing

thanks ameen :)

just want to ask in severe crushing injury with multiple fracture, how many months require for complete recovery ,means 0% limping.

Re: Locked Femoral Nailing

Sorry to hear about his accident. It's good to hear he is recovering.

I have seen people running marathons after injuries that kept them in hospitals for months at end so the fact that he's limping after only a few months of such a severe accident is no surprise. His leg will take quite some time to completely heal.

The most important thing is physical therapy. However, you must only start physical therapy once his "proper" surgery is done and his leg then needs to heal in the proper alignment.
Now, if he cannot afford regular therapy, get a few appointments, have someone go with him and watch how they are doing it. Then have the person do the therapy at home in between visits. That will cut down on your costs a lot.
Now, about the injury. Here's the deal. Unless a doctor looks at the actual, physical reports, there is no way for us to tell you how major or minor his case is. Here's what I suggest, get a second and a third opinion. That's the number 1 thing. Compare what the doctors say and you will clearly see what your next step must be. Please don't wait to get these opinions and take action.

Our bodies are amazing things. They have a powerful tendency to heal themselves. Now, if due to his improper surgery, his leg, the rod and the muscles and screws are NOT aligned properly, the body will heal "around" it. This is almost like a tall building with a shaky first floor. In this case, he will be stuck with a limp for life and the pain will stay with him forever as well. However, if you fix the surgery mistakes, properly align the parts, not only will his pain slowly subside, his limp will completely go away as well.

There is a big difference between post-surgery pain and just plain, slicing pain. He should feel the pain of healing, not just pain because something in wrong inside his body.

Go get doctors' opinions, fix his surgery before the body takes over. We sometimes overlook things saying "khudi theek ho jaay ga", "koi nahin, mard bano" etc but we don't realize that things like this can cause you pain and physical disabilities for life.

Inshallah, May ALLAH grant him health and peace.
Amen.
