Qasai is foreign term for obvious reasons as locals were vegetarian? No. There are instances in Hindu scriptures that they consumed meat. Mahabharat and Ramayan may have local names of these professions.

these names are more known among local Muslim populations…city folks of Hindus are more familiar with word “kasai” because they use Muslim terminology. they also call Halal meat.
