Look at any survey poll from right after (or even before I guess) 2001. Taliban support was at a all time high. It has gone down now thankfully, but still exists. Khairijis will not be defeated overnight as they can still open operate due to sympathetic elements all over pakistan who believe in the cause of killing everyone not believing in their vision.
Right looking it like that, the Pakistani opinion of the Taliban in the 80s and the early 90s was high as well. Hell it goes for the US as well. Does that mean the US supports the Taliban?
