Do you add salt and pepper to your food at the table?
I do and changed from regular salt to “low salt” its 50% less salt. Tastes like regular salt. So im hoping im eating less salt now.
Also what type of pepper do you add, the ready fine ground black pepper, or ground corns from a pepper grinder. Also what about white pepper. Or even garam masala powder?
Re: Lo Salt + Pepper
I also use "light" salt. Much healthier. And I find that when I go to a restaurant and use regular salt, I really feel it now - cant get enough water to drink and my feet and hands swell.
Pepper, I use pre-ground and its fine for us. We'll grind peppercorns for cooking but for the table we always use the pre-ground. And I dont think pepper has any negative health effects, at least not that I've heard so I use it freely.
Re: Lo Salt + Pepper
^^ yes pepper i think is good for you. i asked a fit healthy looking 92 year old that used to visit the local store (big house :) ) what is the secret to your long healthy life and he replied lots of black pepper.
i use less regular salt and now i think i might switch to lo-salt...but anyway we dont put salt directly on food...one aunty told me that its not cooked so its not good for health....her husband was some patient and he was not used to take salt....she used to take his food out of the handi and then put salt and cook it for some minutes for the rest of the family...since then me and my hubby never put salt on food directly...but we love black pepper...and i use black pepper mostly...its very good for ur eyes..skin...it has several benefits...i read somewhere about it..now i dont add red chilli in my omellette...i put black pepper...i have corase black pepper and fresh corns with a grinder on the table so that it can be grinded fresh and used fresh:)
Re: Lo Salt + Pepper
I LOVE pepper! It adds that extra flavor to a dish. I use the pre-ground pepper as well as the pepper grinder, which I think is fun. I use sufficient garam masala in the cooking process of most desi dishes and normally don't use extra.
I also love red pepper flakes. You know the ones you sprinkle on top of pizza. Mmmmm....i like to season some of my dishes with that.
White pepper, I've noticed, is often used in Chinese cooking. Recently I used rosemary and Italian Spice Mix........and they are both very lovely and flavorful and aromatic. I have yet to try the Lemon Pepper I bought. Go pepper!
Re: Lo Salt + Pepper
I under season my food when cooking so can add salt + pepper at the table to taste.
Yes those red chillie flakes are handy.
