Re: Living in Canada

...has i'm the 1st to post in this thread, my friend, vent your anger at the canadians.

lolzzz no anger i wanna vent but yeh looks like either not a lot of people from there or no one reading this...

guys please if you can give me sum info would be nice...

What exactly do you want to know? Where are you going to be staying? If you're coming to Quebec, knowing some French would be handy but not absolutely necessary. Housing and job situation would vary by where you're going to live.

well where do you live at the moment?

Re: Living in Canada

thanx guys for the reply...

listentotheradio i am curently residing in the uae...

spartan i plan on coming to ontario toronta... i wanna wat r the rents like if i rent a studio apartment or a 1-bedroom flat...

also about the job are there IT related jobs there... if yes wat kind wat qualifications do they seek...jus the basic info for me to save up and survive there...

As far as I know, the rent/house prices in Toronto are much higher than where I live (Montreal). There are IT related jobs from what I hear. If you are not coming here with family, then you might also consider splitting the rent for a basement with students of others in you situation. Unfortunately I can't tell you how much rent you'd be looking at as I've never lived there myself but I know that there are other members on this forum who are from Toronto so they might be able to help you more.

Re: Living in Canada

Don't think twice just move here.
We will get you going, what ever you do.

Re: Living in Canada

With a good knowledge in IT field u can do a lot here in Toronto.. u can try for the technical support by the internet providers , u may work as a computer technician.. etc..

the rent here is pretty high compared to other parts of Canada.. u're looking at about $800 -$900 for a one room apartment, but it varies places to places in Toronto as well.. if u're looking to live in downtown toronto..ull be looking at rents in around $1000.

Re: Living in Canada

^wooh!! dats CHEAP compared to MidWest

monster.ca ... might help

hey thanx thts sweet :)

thanx frozen... wen u say rents these are complete flats or is it roomshare...

i work as a technical analyst here in dubai... so the experience is there do they give more weitghtage to experience or diplomas???

Re: Living in Canada

hey

well i am from Toronto and I LOVE IT! hence my name ...maria416 (416 being the Toronto area code, lol)

anyways I dont know where you want to move but if i were you, i would move to Toronto,Onatro, the desi community is HUGE over there, try looking for a place in Thorncliffe park , east York, Toronto, Thorncliffe is a mini south asia, they have a library, masjid, mall (which has the doctors office, dentist, etc) & of course a school ALL AT WALKING DISTANCE.

Plus in Toronto they have the TTC which is the public transit system, so you can get pretty much anywhere thru it, just buy tokens/tickets/ or even better a metro pass (monthly or weekly)

also if you are coming alone...in Thorncliffe you can always get shared accomodation, it will be MUCH cheaper(around $300-$500 for a two bedroomer)...trust me you will love Canada in no time :)

rememer Thorncliffe Park, its located in East York (which is a region in Toronto )

anyways good luck

*Yeah, that's because he won't really be moving to Canada if he moves to Thorncliffe Park; he will be moving to good old Pakistan with paan ki peekain, people peeking in on the personal lives of their neighbors, etc. *

Re: Living in Canada

dont know much about the neighborhood of thorncliffe... though, if u really want to move in Toronto and want to live in desi neighbourhood...the best one is North York.. I started hating north york cuz of all these desi people... all u ever see here are people with turbans and girls in burqaas... toooooo desi :( ill inshallah move out of this area after my studies.. and will start hunting for jobs in Alberta or BC area..

Re: Living in Canada

Thorncliffe is like the Italian neighborhoods in New York or the Irish in South Boston but for Pakistanis; everyone knows or has heard of others in the community. Area is safe but the apartments are standard at best.
Similarly, Scarbrough is also home to many muslims (not just Pakistani).

Re: Living in Canada

well ok first of all i am not a he but a she... n no i am not interested in paan kee peekein etc if iwas i would have stayed sumwhere else... lolzzz...

ok toronto i find reasonable to me but nyideas on the actual rents cuz 1000$ for room sounds cheap n i thought toronto was expensive...

how is toronto are there different places there like north cliff etc... how is mississauga as a place...

LOL, true BUT all the time I spent there, i will say I have maaad memories, we made amazing family friends and the schools are amazing and yeah we moved to Mississauga afterwards which is more Suburbia rather then city...but living in Thorncliffe for a while is great, espeacilly if you are coming alone

so yeah FK, 'sauga is nice too but its not as desi..T-park is what you would want in the beginning, somethhing famillar and whatnot

i guess it really depends on you

thanx maria will keep tht in mind... thanx all for the all help... hope to see u all soon...

r we talkin about the same mississauga - as in. Mrs. Agha…
aka Begum Pura cuz of all the expat Paki uncles who’ve settled their families in 'sauga while they go work in the Middle East. How much more desi do you want? :hehe:

that being said 'sauga is perhaps the cleanest of all desi hubs with ample choice of desi grocery stores, restaurants and what not.
