Absolutely. The Nawas League is under immense pressure. In 48 hrs, PTI crowd can grow even bigger and it actually will, now that Imran has categorically declared that after next 48 hrs, his supporters will cross the Red Zone. Qadri had already warned of significant consequences if his deadline is over with yielding any results. In case Qadri makes the move and sets up the momentum, PTI crowd will also follow the similar suit. I think still Imran played smart, very smart, despite the silly word choice.
But it has to be said that after the initial disappointment over how Imran’s speech didn’t live up to the hype, the point of about civil disobedience is slowly sinking in. Although in this context, it’s just reads as a 48hrs long deadline, but the whole idea of civil disobedience is extremely dangerous if it eventually becomes a movement. The monumental level frustration that exists amongst masses over poor energy supply and inflation, don’t be surprised if such call for civil disobedience spreads like a wildfire in Pakistan. Even though we don’t have a strong socialist model and movement like one that exists in India, but still.
But I must say now when you hear yappers like Saad Rafique, Parvaiz Rasheed, Abid Sher talk on these issues, you’d think these clowns are making zakaat apeal or something, so submissive, so placid and earnest in their talks. Nawas League visbly under pressure and out of choice. There are rumours that Shabaz Sharif may resign before Qadri’s speech.
P.S. Moeed Pierzada was absolutely correct. The international media has picked up on Imran’s call for civil disobedience. Pakistanis may find it funny or don’t exactly know the gravity of the concept, but civil disobedience is a very serious form of peaceful protesting.
