All sides brace themselves for war of nerves - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

The PTI has 34 MNAs — 27 on directly elected seats, six on reserved and one minority legislator.

However, Dawn has learnt that seven resignations were missing.

“At the Speaker’s Office, Mr Qureshi counted all the resignations before putting them in an envelope that he sealed,” a source said.

The speaker can verify the resignations before he announces it to the house and asks secretary National Assembly to take further action.

Critics argued that the move to hand over the resignations showed that the party was trying to further ratchet up the pressure, as the government appeared to be unmoved.

“Be it within the parliament house or outside, the PTI has isolated itself from other political forces of the country. There is no indication how the party plans to force the prime minister’s resignation and then ensure fresh elections and electoral reforms under an impartial caretaker government,” remarked one observer.

Even if the government does resign, the PTI has provided no details on how the caretaker government will be formed?

But such questions do not seem to bother the party on a mission.

For instance, Mr Qureshi contended that like any other political force of the country, the PTI was also in favour of the supremacy of the constitution and parliament, provided the democracy was genuine.

He went on to say, “Some people have doubts in their minds that the PTI will not resign from the National Assembly but here we are. The PTI will not shy from any sacrifice in order to bring true democracy to the country.”

Re: Live Updates of Azadi March

A deal may happen this weekend. Since PTI members resignations cannot be approved till monday (as they were handed over to speaker just before weekend) refusal to accept their resignations may be part of the deal.

Re: Live Updates of Azadi March

^^^

Seven resignations are missing and some 15 are technically flawed as they are addressed to Party Chief instead of speaker.. therefore not admissible. There are strong rumors of a PTI forward block comprising at least 10 MNAs..

Tabdili aa chuki hai.. PTI kay undur..

Re: Live Updates of Azadi March

Looks like Qadri and PTI are only meeting the government to further enhance the deadlock. PTI's demands on one side, the government is totally lost and so far hasn't budged an inch on Qadri's perfectly legitimate demand to legally punish 21 officials responsible for the Model Town massacre? Nawaz League despite the situation reaching this far, hasn't allowed the victims to lodge an FIR. This is what you call mobcracy! If they are still serious about saving this damned system and status quo, why aren't the filing the FIR as a starting point? That's a perfectly just demand according the constitution and magna carta of Pakistan, right? Qadri is dong an excellent job at making government look totally responsible for maintaining the deadlock.

To those who are complaining about 10th day of protest, one call for 'action' and this whole thing can end this very hour with results favouring the obvious party. So kudos to Imran and Qadri for keeping their charged up crowd peaceful. It's a battle of nerves

Happy that their daily doze of lectures, promises and slogan mongering was over, the audience split into two groups. Those who were going home; started walking out of the ground. Those who were spending the night outside the House of Hollow Speeches; scattered around…

Are they trapped by them or they plotted with them? These "journalists" need to make up their mind.

Re: Live Updates of Azadi March

@Shamraz Khan

I did..

My constituency was the same of Saad Rafiq.. I saw Saad Rafiq coming to our polling station and making all the fuss. Our polling station was in Defense and was dominated with PTI voters. My own wife was sporting a PTI shirt. He was complaining that such open display of support was against the rules. It all happened in front of my eyes.

Later I found that PTI used that visit of Saad Rafiq as the main proof of the rigging committed by him. When I saw the detailed results of our constituency I discovered that PTI got around 90% of the votes from Defense polling stations where they were complaining rigging.

My servants live in the same constituency in less fortunate areas. One of driver who lives in Walton told me there were no voters or supporters of PTI where he went to vote. Another servant who lives in Kamahan told me the same story.

I witnessed 2 rallies in Defense on election night in Defense. One was going from Defense to Liberty. You could see posh cars, families, PTI flags, music from cars with PTI songs. The other rally was coming from outside to Defense. You could see Suzuki Carry with 6 boys dancing at the back. Motorcycles with 3 riders.. All these were carrying PMLN flags. You could see a visible class difference between the supporters of 2 groups.

Later I found that around 6/70,000 voters in our constituency came from affluent areas where PTI won with huge margin. Some 300,000 voters came from areas like Chungi Amar Suddhu, Walton, Nishat Colony, Kamahan.. and here PTI lost badly.. and all this was confirmed by my servants who went to vote in these areas.

Later when the protest for rigging started.. It was only in Defense. In all the poor areas I mentioned.. there were huge celebration. I know my constituency very well. I can tell you there was no massive rigging. Saad Rafiq won by a huge margin of over 60,000 votes. PTI crying after the results angers me for the lack of sportsman spirit.

In my opinion Saad Rafiq won fair and square.. And the result if there is a new election would be same. In fact now I feel Defense-Cantt area will be highly divided..

P.S
I was interviewed by an Indian News Channel inside the polling station.. ended up talking to them for 10 minutes about my experiences and friends in India..

Re: Live Updates of Azadi March

Call me conspiratorial, but after what this uncle said about ex CJ & Mushs saga, which IK was happily part of… it seems there is new love between Mush and IK. Only question is what has changed?

Shireen Mazari lashes out at Iftikhar Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD-The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Shireen Mazari today lashed out at former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Dr. Shireen Mazari, in a statement, claimed that former CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was in contact with the top military leadership before his sacking by former president Pervez Musharraf in 2007.
She said that the political motives of Iftikhar Chaudhry became the headlines in media. “He wanted to rig the allegations in favor of Musharraf,” Mazari claimed. The PTI leader added that the role of former CJP in the 2013 elections verifies the PTI’s stance towards him.
