Little Noor’s surgery successful

Bangalore(July 15):**It’s almost bizarre. Troops are lined up on the borders but millions of Indians spent the day following the heart operation conducted on a small Pakistani girl in Bangalore. **

Noor Fatima came to India on the Lahore bus and has completely captured India’s heart. When the doctors emerged from the operation theatre today after a six-and-a-half-hour surgery on little Noor, they were all smiles.

“We repaired all the abnormalities and the baby withstood the procedure. She has a happy heart after the operation,” said Dr Devi Shetty, Founder, Narayana Hrudayalaya Cardiac Hospital.

‘She has spread her light…’

The spotlight has been on the little girl from Pakistan, ever since she boarded the Lahore bus and then touched down in Bangalore.

And her parents, Tayyeba Nadeem and Nadeem Sajjad were ecstatic today.

“We are so happy, even people back home in Pakistan are so happy. We rang them up and told them. Noor seems to have won many hearts in India too. Noor means light and she has spread her light here in India”, said Noor’s mother.

Long journey

One in 140 children suffer from congenital heart disease and hundreds like Noor are in search of corrective surgery, both in India and across the border.

Yet due to lack of overflights between India and Pakistan, these children are put through untold suffering.

“My appeal to any government is that it has to be a boundary less world, where people in pain should be allowed to travel wherever they want to,” urged Dr Devi Shetty.

It was a long journey for Noor but the Indian doctors did not let her down. They did everything to take away her pain and return her childhood.

I know that general citizens of India get a very worm welcome among local Pakis in Pakistan.

Where is the problem? Vajpei or Musharraf cannot solve their local problems, thatswhy one is always addressing Kashmir and the other is addressing Pakistan. Let them have dual!

Let Noor smile for long, forever!

Bangalore. I love you.
