is it true that you should keep your daughters hair length short whilst they are growing up so they grow taller and more intelligent?
Heba hair is approaching waist length, but cus its so curly it bounces up and sits just under her shoulders… i know to keep it healthy, i should get it trimmed, so that’s all good.. but im hesitant from cutting it all off to just a bob size…
sadzzzzzzzzzzzzz, that’s what many people have been telling me, that cut my daughters’ hair off so they can grow taller because all the energy is getting sucked by their hair :hinna:
As a teacher I've had female students with considerably long hair who were very intelligent. I've seen average students with long hair and short hair.
I have a cousin who is almost (if not already) 6 feet tall with gorgeous long hair. I have another cousin, pretty enough to be a model, with very long hair, is about 5 feet 7, and was a straight-A student. My sister, MashaAllah, has long brown hair with natural red highlights and it's always so shiny. I envy her cuz she never oils it. And she's very intelligent and a med-school student.
I've also heard that girls with long hair won't grow. Not true at all. Height is a polygenic trait, it's controlled by many genes, which results in variations in height in a family.
Your hair cut/style can make you look taller/shorter/slimmer/fatter/older/younger. On a smaller person...long hair can weigh them down and make them appear shorter. This idea could have started the myth.
There's no correlation between hair and intelligence. I wonder why the myth even started. Do you think because people would assume that girls with longer hair will receive more attention regarding their hair...become more vain....obsess over their looks...and thus not focus too much on their studies? And end up being less bright? Maybe such a view perpetuated this silly idea.
Whatever the reason.....there's no link. If you as a parent observe that your daughter is having a hard time managing her hair...then go ahead and cut it. If your daughter loves her hair...let it be. I say this because as a kid, I fantasized about having long hair like Heba's. And my mom always had my hair either in a boy cut or shoulder length, lol.
^ yes and i think thats why id like my daughter to grow her hair haha.. cus i always had a bob and my sister had the longer her. .so not fair i tell ya
apparently some docs in the middle-east recommend it too. Hence im wondering whether its just a cultural thing or there is some medical reasoning behind it.
With managing the hair.. lil girls cant quite manage their hair. Thats the parents job. So, if you're not lazy with brushing their hair and tying it.. i guess its great.

I lived in the middle east. If you've never lived there.......you have no idea how frickin HOT it can get. Temperatures can climb to a 110. It's difficult to open the door to your car cuz it's scorching hot. And it's even tougher for the women, who wear abayas. The abayas are black and everyone knows that black absorbs heat. Doctors in the middle east might recommend shorter hair for many reasons....
1) Since the weather their is sweltering hot, a shorter hair cut would mean less sweating. Keep in mind, kids don't always know how to manage their hair. Hot climate can make scalp oily. And if kids don't wash their hair well...the excess oil and residue can lead to scalp problems like dandruff and acne.
2) LICE.......they're easier to get out when the hair is shorter!
3) Hazards.....kids are not always careful with how they play. A braid could get caught in a door/machinery and become a hazard.
4) Easier managment. Less pulling/tugging...less hair loss.
5) I've seen paretns keep short bangs for girls....because if they get in their eyes, they can't see clearly.
I haven't found anything about hair impacting height. I've read that height is influenced by genetics, diet, and hormones. And in my class, i learned that height is a polygenic trait.....meaning it's not only based on genes from mom and dad....there's a variety of alleles representing various heights......and the child can inherit any of the alleles. That's why some kids' heights don't seem to match up with other family members. Unless he meant, that it will make a child appear visually taller. Long hair drags downwards...bringing your eyes down...and thus making a small person appear smaller. It would be interesting to get doctor's responses on this.
my mom never cut my hairs..coz she use to say long hairs looks good on me...well..when i turn to 13 i start cuting my hairs..but Masha ALLAH my height was good ..and now im 5"6

what to do?
LOL that is so funny and stupid.
So you didn't see a tall girl with gr8 hair and intelligent. lol
It's not true.. there's no connection with hair and height :) just give her a lot of proteins and multivitamins.. a & d are really good for hair.. and keep her hair as long as u like.. she will grow as tall as she's destined to grow!
Its an old wives's tale. I have had very long hair since I was 8 and am 5 '6" and a gold medalist in MBA. That said I keep my 3 year old's hair bob length as its hard to manage and dry. If she wants longer hair when she can manage it herself she can have it.
My mom kept my hair short as a girl even though it's very manageable because she didn't want us to relate to the girly girls on tv. i am still sort of a tomboy...but my hair is down to my back :)
