Re: List over types of desi clothing?
its a vest :p but prettier and shorter typically for women
angrakha choori daar pajama shalwar kameez lehnga gharara sharara koti peshwaz
I don't know what the following are:
Scratches head
Angrakha is another one those mughlai dresses, like a peshwaz is. It’s got a specific cut to it, in which it opens from the front and overlaps to the side, and is typically tied with a hook or a dori. guys and girls both wear it. it can either take a typical kurta shape, or more dress/frock shape.
this is a very ugly one, but the closest thing to an angrakha i can find.
Koti is just a vest
it’s like an accessory of sorts. it’s not that in that’s why you don’t see a lot of it.
Gharara’s a 2 legged skirt thingamajig with gote at the knees.
The ferozi suit in the background of this image is my valima suit, an angharka: http://gim.gupshup.org/gal/H/DSC03028b20688_8018672.JPG
A koti, as someone mentioned above, is a vest, often decorated in mirrorwork for women.
A gharara looks like a big ballgown sort of skirt, but it’s actually split so it’s technically more like pants. I believe they originate from the Lucknow area of India, though I’m not sure. There’s usually a seam either above the knew or at the shin/ankle area, depending on the gharara style. Ghararas and shararas are what are typically shown as bridal clothes, though you can wear them more casually. The red piece in the above link is a “delhi cut” gharara.
Beautiful outfits! I am sure you looked gorgeous in them... MashaAllah.
Thank you for the clarfication/explanation... I now know my "Desi Fashion" basics. Woohoo!
Though, ghararas and shararas are beautiful I doubt I'll ever be able to sport one. I'd imagine one would have to have a PERFECT body to wear those. I'm just too darn thin! Sniff, sniff.
