Trick: Use a more matte lip balm underneath your liquid lipstick.
I have compared my usual Neutrogena chapstick which is more moisturizing and watery to Burt's Bees lip balm ( I am using the pomengranate oil based one, which is more moisturizing but it's more flat and balmy compared to the Neutrogena) and I also tried aquaphor's chapstick which is more gummy.
The Burt's Bees is winning so far at least with my NYX lip products. The NYX is more a creme that dries matte, whereas the other products on the market are full liquid that dry matte. Different texture. The liquid seeps into your lip cracks, so the more dry your lips, the more patchy it will look.
So.
exfoliate - use a sugar scrub or anything with granules. I am using my face scrub honestly these days to exfoliate my lips every morning in the shower, and before I go to bed.
Use a lip balm underneath the lipstick.
I will try Burt's bees underneath the liquid lipstick. But I used aquaphor underneath the Milani liquid lipsticks I got and it did help to keep the lips more moist but still give a matte look. The lip color didn't rub off for the entire day - even at night, my lips were deep red, although mildly faded since the morning. And I ate and drank stuff.
That's what I like about the liquid lipsticks that dry matte - they don't come off that easily.
They're amazing. I got them for 3 dollars each, because the CVS folks accidentally scanned them with their current lipstick sale for 3 dollars per lipstick. You might want to try out the matte lipsticks also - the traditional sticks that come in a tube. They're priced at 3 dollars, so good to buy one and just experiment. A frikkin snickers bar these days costs as much, so I didn't feel guilty buying a few lipsticks to experiment.
Another brand worth trying is Maybelline's creamy matte lipsticks - new line that has come out and is available in the drug stores.
Call me crazy, but I like the matte creamy lipsticks better than liquid lipsticks. Matte look without being drying. NYX's matte lipstick line is a steal. Maybelline's line of creamy matte's is also good, but more pricey (look for drug store sales!). I picked up a Milani creamy lipstick also, but haven't tried it yet.
I was NEVER into drug store products, and their lipsticks were always a joke to me. I remember the drying nasty waxy products they used to sell in the 80's that I'd find in my aunts' drawers. Just disgusting. Didn't last the Karachi heat either.
But their new products are impressing me. I still stay away from the drug store products - not a fan of feeding the gigantic diet of big brands that waste away their profits in utter stupidity like bombing people for a hobby (cough cough, Estee Lauder / MAC CEO...). So even the mega drug store bands are bothering me. But I have to say, the product is comfortable - at least with Maybelline I was impressed. It's very soft and silky in it's feel, and it's totally matte. And they have nice colors out too.
But Milani's liquid lipstick - amazing. I had heads turning at work yesterday. HEADS TURNING.
By the way, Eshani's (the girl in the make up video) - her skin is pretty much disasterous now with all the make-up she is trying on all the time.
Be careful. Give yourself make-up holidays and wash off all the make up as soon as you don't need it to be on. Scrub every other day. Hydrate with good moisturizers, and use your night creams (I don't use actual night creams - they're too heavy, just use a daily moisturizer). Use your sun screen underneath your make-up every day. Super important.
Just be careful. All this constant make-up will ruin your skin if you don't take care of your skin in the process.
I don't know. All the nyx products have me going nuts.
Even their plain lipsticks are good. Try the butter ones for dry lips. Their matte lipsticks are a solid buy. I haven't tried the round creamy lipstick, high voltage lipstick, or some of the other types of glosses/liquid lipsticks like the xtreme lip cream (I'm surprised there isn't more fuss about this line), but whatever I have tried, I am super happy.
I heard about the Kate Von D ones. Are they really not as drying? I have a hard time imaging any liquid lipstick that isn't drying. They all dry matte, so tough on lips that are chapped.
I've been wanting to try the Sephora line of matte creams. Anyone try those?
I love the Sephora lipstains and I think they're underrated and such a good price. My favorite is 01 Red. I wear that on its own or on top of red lipstick for a more intense look.
Chanel's stains are amazing and they're two sided with a glossy part as well if you want to wear it glossy, which I like the option of having. Too Faced's melted lipsticks are also really nice.
As an avid matte lipstick wearer/lover; I find NYX matte creams are great for the price but they do tend to get sticky.
Yup waiting on the Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick, I KNOW I want them all
Oh and just for a last minute thing, I ran out of my usual nude lipstick and I picked up ‘Surratt beauty’ lip crayon in ‘pinky nude’ very matte cream like but stays put for hours and doesn’t dry out…very pleasantly happy with this little purchase
Image uploader didn’t work for me but I will try to post the shade on another time
