Re: Linux 2.6.17 Released

How big is linux in pakistan?
While back I heard that Govt. want to change whole system to linux moving away from windows.
Did it actually happen?

are their lots of linux operation going on in pakistan?

Re: Linux 2.6.17 Released

Well so far people have starting to know that there is another OS called Linux. Most of ISPs are using it & some government sector is using Linux as well but mostly as Servers, no one bothered with it as Desktop and people are still sticking with Windows.

In private sector people have started to use it only because they dont want pirated softwares. There is another reason a System Admin told me in Lahore that 90% of the Pirated CDs in Pakistan for Windows OS are virused or with missing some important OS files. So rather than buying a genuine Windows, companies prefer to get Linux.

Just to add that it is also covering the recent kernel issues like those couple of chroot bypasses in smbfs and panics in the (baby) SCTP protocol.
