Not really, it can be very dangerous for one’s current employment if they start putting their job search details in the linkedin status bar 
Mostly people use it to make meaningful statements regards work, meetings, clients, business news , political news etc .. new systems they might be using, new processes , legal changes etc ..
the status bar helps in engaging with the professional crowed in a good way ..
