As the Sharif government refused to condemn Jang Group’s vociferous campaign against the ISI in the wake of Hamid Mir attack and the PM visited the injured journalist in hospital on Monday, General Raheel Sharif chose to respond in his own way. He paid a visit to the headquarters of the ISI the next day, appreciated the role of the spy agency and showed his confidence in the leadership of Director General Zaheerul Islam.
Who is ISI? Bunch of wimps who need Big Daddy to jump in and pat them on their backs because there's an unconscious victim who held ISI responsible for his death or any harm? This General is so quick speak to these uniformed gangster, did he bother speaking to the nation about future plans to fight terrorism, now that ceasefire is long finished, negotiations have made no apparent progress. There's been two bomb blast in KPK today, where does the army stand on this issue? Has he promised anything? Has he hinted the future policy? Has he offered any solution? Has he owned any exit policy? Has he signaled any success? Has he promised an end to this war? Has he promised victory? Has he promised peace? Has he raised people's morale? No but he must waste no time to congratulate the ISI for pissing off the media walas.
Again, the country's been hit by bomb blasts, and your General is busy playing mind games to send civic society a 'message'.
ISI should stop killing people & focus on its main job of being an intelligence agency. BTW, every journalist who has been killed…faced threats from ISI. Many were kidnapped and tortured (Umer Cheema) others were unlucky and were killed. In almost all cases they had warned that if they are killed ISI will be responsible for it. Why? As saying goes…if there is smoke there is fire & in this case they have lit entire country on fire.
Kindly read Sharifs as Nawaz And Raheel until further notice :)
I did. And my first line was about Raheel and Nawaz. Raheel is actually very shareef and toothless like his predecessor Kiyani. Cold War shold war is just a speculation.
Jang group deserves this treason case. It is the biggest media group in the country. And it chose to promote the uncorroborated allegations against the country's own intelligence agency.
There is a difference between a commoner like us or Amir Mir throwing allegation on ISI but it is unacceptable when if it comes from the most powerful media group which can influence millions of people.
Not even in the US the media group go against FBI or army the way Jang did in Pakistan.
Looks like Jang group will have to pay for towing the line of Nawaz Sharif's dictatorial policies. The guy considers himself a Saudi monarch. Twice before he had had trouble working with other echelons of power. First time it was President Farooq Laghari who threw him out. Second time he made one army chief resign before the next army chief threw him out again.
Now Nawaz is doing it all over again. Difference is that this time around Jang group is feeling the heat as well.
** If the court orders ban on Jang group then it will mean one less Taliban-Nawaz ally on air.**
Here comes the role of ISI which it is not fulfilling yet their ego gets hurt by a media channel.
Media is one of the most important cornerstone of state. And Jang being an Urdu newspaper has large impact on common Pakistanis.
It is not jut about ego.
GEO did nothing wrong. They broadcast a simple fact that Hamid Mir had confided to many people that if anything happened to him, ISI should be held responsible.
Even Dawn repeated Amir Mir’s allegation. So I don’t think it was that simple. Jang continued to build on the Amir Mir’s allegations by pointing fingers at ISI itself. It was showing pictures of ISI chief while repeating Mir’s allegations against ISI, as if confirming his allegations.
Personally, I think ISI could have done it. But a group like Jang is supposed to be responsible enough to understand that just throwing allegation the very next day of a crime is nothing but throwing dirt.
Jang group’s favorite investigative journalist is Ansar Abbasi who is a known Taliban sympathizer. He has concocted lies numerous times, and yet Jang groups continues to publish his lies on the front page of their newspapers.
**LAHORE: ** Maj-Gen Rashid Qureshi, the former director general of the ISPR, said on Monday that Jang Group and Geo TV concoct news stories against institutions to seek action against them.
With regard to Jang Group reporter Ansar Abbasi, Qureshi said many of his so-called investigative reports have turned out to be untrue. The latest example of his fabricated stories is the one on alleged power theft at General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s farmhouse at Chak Shahzad, he added.
He further said that if investigations prove the allegations against the ISI chief to be false, then Hamid Mir and Ansar Abbasi should be taken to court and prosecuted.
He also said that the recent comments of Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid were shocking and hinted at a friction between the government and the military. An impression is being given that the military is incapable of doing anything, he added.
Former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jehangir said that the media manipulated the attack on Hamid Mir and damaged the sanctity of state institutions due to inter-media rivalries. She said that based on the accusations of one person it was unethical to repeatedly air the picture of the ISI chief on television like a criminal.
