limited resources and simple life style

I was watching tv program, where a guest was blaming south asians for causing the population growrh and using cars that causes pollution.
West, at one hand keep advising others to limit the population growth on the other hand they themselves are hell bent on consuming the every single resource to cater their luxury. if they really are sincere and think that we have limited resources, why dont they advocate for simple life style at the same time?
wouldnt it be an effective approach to deal with situation?

Re: limited resources and simple life style

Yes, you're right, it'd be far too simple of an approach. Maybe they've tried and no one is listening? Btw, what do you think of the Chinese blaming the South Asians for melting Tibetian glaciers due to pollution?

Re: limited resources and simple life style

Pollution is an issue, no denying. But when rants about limited resources come from west I just regard it as sheer hypocrisy. Its analogous to, some friends have enough food for a party but they don’t want to invite more people because they know they have the habit of wasting food.

here is intersting stat
The State of Consumption Today | Worldwatch Institute
The U.S. Consumer
The United States, with less than 5 % of the global population, uses about a quarter of the world’s fossil fuel resources—burning up nearly 25 % of the coal, 26 % of the oil, and 27 % of the world’s natural gas.
As of 2003, the U.S. had more private cars than licensed drivers, and gas-guzzling sport utility vehicles were among the best-selling vehicles.
New houses in the U.S. were 38 % bigger in 2002 than in 1975, despite having fewer people per household on average.

Re: limited resources and simple life style

and the tibetans blame the chinese for mm.. ruining tibet and tibetan way of life and culture in every possible way. so china can suck it.

Re: limited resources and simple life style

That was my point, it's all hypocrisy. Chinese blaming the South Asians is just as ironic as US blaming South Asia and trust me we know how US is the land of XXXL in almost every aspect.

What are your suggestions to help change or shift this paradigm to 'less is more'?

Re: limited resources and simple life style

The issue really isn't about limited resources, the question should be about equal distribution of resources.

Re: limited resources and simple life style

You know how things get value?
Well, to shift this paradigm or stop people following the "trailblazers" is not an easy task.

Re: limited resources and simple life style

The stage is set open for all to exercise their power and get whatever you can.
To talk about equal distribution of resources, we have talk about morality first, and morality is not an 'argument', you know.
