I am curious, is a strike random or due to something else? Eg if I go out what are the chances of me being struck by one
Re: Lightiening
really good chance, since your cell phone is going to show lighting were to come.
Re: Lightiening
The odds of becoming a lightning victim in the U.S. in any one year is 1 in 700,000. The odds of being struck in your lifetime is 1 in 3,000.
Lightning in Pakistan is scary as hell. It’s very rare in Ireland, at least where I live, so I remember being really scared when I experienced it in Pakistan. Couldn’t sleep. It was so loud and just kept going on all night. I thought I was gonna die. :naak:
Re: Lightiening
^Huma…I think you are talking about the thundering
that is what is loud…not the lightning ![]()
Same in SL…I always get a shock with the thundering…

speed of sound vs speed of light
Re: Lightiening
lightning does NOT come down, as is understood by a common man, instead the tallest object connects with the lightning bolt in the atmosphere. the charge actually travels UPward to make connection with the bolt of lightning.
the lightning bolt travels upward as shown in this video, the action is so fast that it looks like it’s happening in the reverse direction. this can be clearly seen in slow motion videos.:
Re: Lightiening
Lightening I can handle .......thunder is a different story!
So who else counts the seconds of delay between thunder and lightening?
To figure out how far lightening is from you, count the seconds between when you see lightening til you hear the thunder. Divide that number by 5 to find out how many miles it is away! (rough estimate)
Re: Lightiening
^that is cool..am gonna do that next time!

Re: Lightiening

I've read that odds increase if you write "Strike Me!" or just an "L" with red Sharpie on your forehead...stand next to a tree...cross your fingers...and tempt the heavens with an upward beseeching glance. If the lightning doesn't strike you, the tree might....so win-win.

I am dizzy
Re: Lightiening
And why is it more common and horrible in winter and spring rains in Pakistan than the summer monsoon?
Re: Lightiening
Lightening striking some object can be sudden. But mostly it is forbidden to go out by earning black color when it is lightening.
Re: Lightiening
1 in 14 million :D don't believe me? go ahead and try it out! :)
