edit: by lifestyle i meant which has a more “pakistani” feeling to it? ex: better shopping for pakistani clothing, which one has a more closer pakistani community.
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
off topic but in the UK "paki" is an offensive term used for all south asians, tis what i've heard
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
Better shopping I'm sure goes to the UK
Honestly though the US is very different throughout its states.....heck even cities. So its hard to compare.
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
The desi community is older and more diverse in the UK, and more condensed. Definitely there are more desi options out there.
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
UK: mangy-lookin set of chompers.
US: pearly whites, spaced just right. :D
:p
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
Darn, OP. You edited your question from being broad to more specific. :(
(Whatevs. My previous post shall remain).
Now to answer your question....UK would better for clothing...and has a bigger desi population.
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?

The standard is set very low if you consider them less confused :p
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
I have mostly liked ppl from US. They have almost no attitude when they tallk to you.
UK ...... ummm ... i better reserve my comments or i may offend many.
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
Awww FT how was your interview ?
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
a better "community" feel in the UK as UK is much smaller in size than US. Depending on what city/state you live in US, the Pakistani Crowd might be better educated (engineers/doctors - who might have emigrated for jobs). One good thing about living in UK is that PAK is just 7 -8 hours away if you are adventurous enough to fly with PIA :) Nisha25 - yes, word "Paki" is offensive and was/is used as such to stereotype people from South Asia - comparable maybe to "Rag head" remark that might be used in USA.
The community in UK has come a long way in setting a mark in UK and from very humble beginnings - if you look at some big names in businesses, they started off in markets (flea markets) and now are owners of fairly big businesses. In politics as well and other fields the same story. In the US, since most of the immigrants are maybe 1st, 2nd generation (as compared to maybe 5-6th generation in the UK), I guess it might be a little while before they are able to set a mark (and given the current state of affairs between US and Pakistan) it might make it a little tough.
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
On a personal note - I have found British Pakistanis more racist and xenophobic then American Pakistanis .. Despite the little place I have in me heart for UK/Ireland , I hate the culinary skills of Indian restaurants in United kingdom .. Bloody daft as a brush .
There is no such thing known as ' chicken tikka masala ' in my food dictionary ...
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
^Depends which parts of UK I guess. London is very multicultural, but if your travel outside where there's less brown faces, people are less understanding I spose. I've never seen THAT much racism myself, it's more ignorance. But there are definitely close-knit communities which strong values still within the UK. Can't say much about USA pakistanis cos I've never been and I dont know many people from there.
I'm pretty sure you're allowed to say 'paki' if you are one yourself, otherwise it's offensive when said by other people. But either way I spose its not PC is it

Not sure about racist or xenophobic but prob more insular and a bit less open.. like the Brits in Spain or anywhere you get clusters of 'foreigners' who prefer to stick with their own.. With desis the differences are more pronounced outside London as well imo.. The capital is more of a melting pot..
On a side note most of the 'Indian' resturants in the UK are actually Bangladeshi..
Re: Lifestyle differences between uk-pakis and usa-pakis?
I wonder how we as Pakistanis compare to others in terms of racism etc. For example, calling people choora, meerasi?, kala, and the list goes on and on. I hope I have not offended anyone by asking such a direct question.
