The longest I have ever lived without electricity was this weekend roughly 30 hours and it was hell. It happened due to snow, cables got frozen with ice at my end .
Leave business aside and start from your daily life. Right from your toaster to your hair dryer, electric stove, washing machines, fridge, lights, radiators during winter etc, are all dependent on electricity for their functioning. And, the worse thing was minus temperature. It was snowing badly outside. Only the gas fire place was working n gas cookers. So, It was much better to eat warm food n drink warm water. Computers, laptops, cell phones and all others gadgets were not working.
I felt like I am living in the olden days without electricity. I feel sad for those people who are living without it, I just couldn’t imagine living that way. It’s hard especially when we’re used to everything that we have that takes electricity. Also, It was so boring to have a power outage. I lost electricity for a few hours and I was so bored. I couldn’t do anything, just kept on talking to my sisz . The worse thing was cold n dark weather, made me feel depressed.
Now, I have learnt how to live without electric . I was so fed up, it seemed forever for the power to come back on. The electric department came to fix it. It was an all day project. Finally, we got electricity back last night. It’s just not home without electricity :k:
I know, right!! Life just stops without electricity! We have an electric fireplace too so if there’s no electricity, there’s no fire, no cooking (electric hobs), no showers
OP: Do not ever visit Pakistan. In the summer we have 10-12 hour per day outages, everyone has alternative solutions but it is still very frustrating.
The only time I ever experienced an outage in the UK was when I had an exam the next day, a lot of studying/last minute cramming to get through and suddenly the power went out in the whole area. The fault took 3 hours to get fixed and taught me an important lesson on not leaving everything to the last moment (which I still haven't learned).
30 hours, wow.. We lost ours for about an hour today cos of the snow and that was bad enough :( We've had short sharp power cuts in the past (maybe once every couple of years, lasting less than 5mins) since we moved near to London. It's strange but for the first 20-odd years of my life it never happened.. It is so surreal hearing like 4 or 5 alarms from different houses going off around u in the middle of the day..
i happened a few years back in North America from New York to Chicago. The electric supply grid suffered a massive trip we were plunged into darkness. luckily, it happened in summer so we didn't have problems like winter wud bring [as experienced by Lippy]. everything stoppped working that we take for granted. life, as we know it, was a living hell. the power outage lasted for three days and everybody had to throw their frozen foods into garbage.
I hate powercuts but thankfully I at least am glad that when they come I am ussually more than prepared.... trouble is in Western society it doesn't matter how much stamina you might have thier simply aint no way you'll find food unless your prepared to hunt for it or risk stealing it... Most shops shut down you see.
Speaking of hunting, the other day a friend and I decided that this winter would be very difficuilt if the snow was for a long time becuase we would run out of suitable prey... Franlky theres not much hunting round here. The deers and rabbits are about as much as we can think of... Most birds have gone for winter and I doubt we'll be able to hit a smaller bird on the wing.
In fact the best power failure I’ve experienced is when we were in Dubai and there was an outage…they started giving out free ice creams cuz they were melting :D***
30 hrs? I live in a rural area of Washington State. We had a big windstorm that knocked out power for lakhs of homes. We were without power for 12.5 DAYS. 30hrs is child's play!
Look at the bright side, the best part of not having electricity, you talked to your sisz which may not have happened as much if computers/cell-phones were working :k:
