LIFE or something like it ...

Re: LIFE or something like it ...

This is a very good topic indeed.

My thoughts are mixed. I have struggled my way in life as well, had issues realizing what I am really good at, and then what can I do with the skillset that I have to make a difference.

What I noticed is that there were sort of two categories in our "desi" community:

  1. Just survive first. Unfortunately, a lot of our parents have struggled to come to canada and the main purpose for their journey was to provide us a safe place to survive. They are not looking for us to take risk. They are not comfortable with that. If I decide to pursue something is not a "norm" than they are hard to convince. Hence what happens over time is that we loose our ability to think freely, take risks and move forward.

  2. The rest of them. They are a bit more risk takers. Either they took the challenge head-on, or slowly realized that life is not going to move ahead if they dont' try to take a few risks.

Overall, I think if we ever want our country or ourselves to succeed, we need to start taking risks. I remember leaving my good job to do something i really wanted to.. and boy did I hear a earful from my family, extended family and every other family-friend lol

Currently, I see that our generation is very low on self-confidence. Those who think that they do have it, are just lying to themselves. Being able to sit with 15 other desis and yell out swear words is not confidence.

I really do encourage you to take the risk, go with your gut feeling. If you are looking for a job than think out-side-the-box. If you dont have 5 years of experience than think of how you can be creative and show the employer that you have equalient of 5 years of experience.
