Life on other planets

Do you think they (aliens) will be like us? Four limbs, two eyes one mouth etc?

What if they had religion? How would it affect the religions who are followed by people on Earth?

There are creatures on this planet that don't have four limbs or two eyes. One of such creature might be buzzing over your trash bin right now.

Re: Life on other planets

They could or could not be. They are aliens!

Re: Life on other planets

I meant like us, i.e.human form so to speak. Intelligent life.

It makes me sad I wont be alive when inevitably we make contact.

Re: Life on other planets

Or we already did but we don’t know it or the aliens won’t let us know. You know what totally blew my mind? When Michio Kaku explained how aliens could already be here and they do not think like us. They may not be conquerors or territorial like humans are. They may already have made contact but we are not at their level of intelligence to be able to decode their messages. We simply do not know.

Re: Life on other planets

Reminds me, what are your views on UFO's? Roswell?

Re: Life on other planets

What about UFOs? They are exactly what they are: Unidentified Flying Objects. :p

Roswell? Well, there are theories. The incident has given Area 51 more attention than it should have received. Do I believe an spaceship actually crashed there? um I don't know. Do I believe they are hiding aliens in Area 51? No, it's a highly secretive military base that holds highly confidential information. Believe it or not, the U.S. government actually has a plan for "when aliens attack"

Who knows!!!!!

Intelligent life form does not need to be carbon based. It could very well be silica based. It could be breathing hydrogen .... but in order to be a technologically advanced breed, they need to have stereo scopic vision system - meaning two eyes minimum. They need to be upright, and have minimum of four limbs.

Theories of science are universal, and survival of the fittest is a universal theory, and wherever life could evolve in this universe, it would follow that theory for life to survive. The end result of that evolution process would be very close to what we look like.

I am sure you know that most intelligent life form on this planet is not us, but dolphins. But without limbs, or advanced voice boxes like us, they are no where advance. Point is this that for any breed to advance like us, it has to resemble our anatomy.

Did you watch the first episode of new cosmos? You remember the fourth or fifth line of our cosmic address, where they showed our location in our milky way galaxy? Our location in our galaxy is so insignificant that forget about aliens traveling to us, they would not even know that we exist. No alien visiting us means no ufo.

Unless, you think that Erik von Daniken (spelling ?) is right, and we are genetically planted in this planet by alien beings from elsewhere, and first few hundred or thousand years, they kept coming back to check on our growth. In that case, Roswell could happen.

Re: Life on other planets

I kinda like that dude. Does that make me weird? I love entertaining strange theories. To be honest, it's quite plausible.

If you give his books and theories an unbiased look, the guy does make sense. I like him too. Very genuine and independent thinker.

Re: Life on other planets

What if you have a being with one larger eye with a wider vision? What I mean why would something need to resemble us to be an advanced civilization?

Re: Life on other planets

Interesting, one episode I remember from Star Trek where one person comments how all species look similar ie same amount of limbs eyes etc, and the answer was that some ancient, billions of years old race, distributed DNA all around the universe and while that ensured we all looked similar the different features were due everyone's distinct evolutionary progress.

Re: Life on other planets

Say its true, wouldn’t we agree that disclosing to everyone that Aliens visit us cause panic? :hmmm: It would question everyone’s religious beliefs and everything we know about ourselves.

One larger eye is not going to work. You need two eyes pointing towards the same direction to get the perception of depth, which is very vital for your survival. World will be 2D for you if you have one eye.

You can’t be leela

Re: Life on other planets

I strongly believe that we are not alone in the universe. Universe is huge .. within a single galaxy like ours Milky Way there are billions of star system and imagine billions of such galaxies.
ET life does not necessarily have to be intelligent .. it could be something like amoeba, fungi or something you see in Sci-fi movies. There could be intelligent life but not very much advanced than us because otherwise they would have visited us lol

Re: Life on other planets

A.C. Clarke beckons you my frand.

"the Ramans always do things in threes."

Re: Life on other planets

I am the Leela of GS. I have one good eye and I am legally half blind. I have been this way since I was a year old. No joke. I have depth perception issues but it is not life threatening or a struggle. The world is not 2D with one eye. It only makes a slight difference when you are looking at something closely.

It’s not life threatening to us now, but we would not have survived through caves and jungles .

So Mr Theorist; is he more like Philip J Fry or Zapp Brannigan?

Re: Life on other planets

Good discussion.
