How long is cookware supposed to last you, say, non-stick?
If something looks beaten up and the outer paint is all chipped and just looks bad…but it still works! do you still use it?

For non stick I throw it away as soon as it starts showing signs because it is really dangerous for your health.I bought one set from Costco their brand but it lasted two years now I am using some pans for egg boiling only.
Now I am thinking I can only buy two non stick frying pans at a time and when they wear out I throw them away. I am not into buying these cookware sets now as some of them wear out and some of them I never touch. So just buy calphalon or may be emeril one and when they have completed their life throw them away. ![]()
Seiously non stick is dangerous stuff.
I cannot use stainless steel sets its hard for me too cook in them:bummer:
Re: Life of cookware
OH really? I had no idea its so bad?!??! ![]()
with most of my dishes, on the inside they look fine, no scratches etc…but the outside looks so ugly now..i 've had em for 2+ years (they weren’t new when I got them so).
So if nonstick is so bad and stainless steel is hard to cook in, then what are we supposed to use? ![]()
Re: Life of cookware
Sara, if there are no scratches or chipoffs inside then it is safe to use.
Re: Life of cookware
I would carry on using them, if they are working fine ... and not unhygienic on the outside ...
If its just paint chip of ... then its perfectly fine ... no issues ... but if its the burnt oil accumulation and burning showing , then use strong bleech and clear it off , I suggest.
Re: Life of cookware
I will never advocate non-stick cookware except for frying pans.
Stainless steel is the best but you have to really invest a decent amount. I bought my Lagostina set about 10 years ago and it is unscathed still. Food does not burn, provided you are not careless and they clean up like magic.

Yes that's the one. As for what's the best - I defer to the cooking experts on that question.
Lagostina looks expensive, how do I persuade hubby to part with that kind of money (thinking cap on time) Just as a question though how does circulon compare to Lagostina? Any experiences?
Thanks
Re: Life of cookware
After spending (rather wasting) $$$$$$$ on non-stick cookware for years, we have come to conclusion that we should not waste any more money on it (except for frying pans).
No matter how expensive set you buy, how carefully you use it, you have to throw it out of the window in a year even though we strictly use non-sticking/plastic spoons etc. Now we think that stainless steel pots (with heavy base) are best thing happend after sliced bread!
