" Life is too Short"… Short Story Contest. It is the largest short story contest in Pakistan. One of our GS members came accross this contest info and thought we should start a thread to spread the word. You guys can use this thread to share ideas. If you decide to participate, please do not post your stories in this thread. If you need help with editing, just post a note in this thread asking for help. You can exchange the essay with the other person through pm or e-mail for your editing purposes.
I would really encourage people to participate in this contest. It sounds interesting and fun.

Objective

• To find high quality writers from this region
• To create a forum for short storyists, in an atmosphere devoid of literary journals and high quality short story publications
• To promote contemporary fiction that reflects contemporary Pakistan
• To expand the scope and quality of literature being produced in Pakistan

About life’s too short
The short story is what you make it. As a genre it has been used by writers as varied as Maupassant, Chekhov, Faulkner, Mansfield and Manto. It can be a gem consisting of a few paragraphs or the seed of a larger idea – both The Great Gatsby and The Sun also Rises started life as short stories.

The life’s too short Short Story Prize was conceived to reinvigorate this oft-neglected genre in Pakistan. With the increasing success of short story collections in the global publishing market, they are becoming big news again. Now we would like people to read yours.

Sponsored by the ZZ & Zohra Ahmed Foundation, entry to this competition is free of charge and the prize money is the most substantial for any such endeavour in Pakistan.

Rules & Regulations

• Participants must be of Pakistani origin
• The stories may have any theme or subject, but should not exceed 5,000 words.
• The stories must be original and should not have been previously published anywhere in full or part.
• All entries must be in English
• Only one entry per person
• Entries will not be returned or acknowledged.
• Winners will assign publication rights to the Z.Z. and Zohra Ahmed Foundation for a period of 2 years
• Administrators of the prize reserve the right to disqualify any entry without any correspondence in this regard
• Only winners will be notified
• Poetry will not be accepted.

HOW TO SEND IN YOUR ENTRIES

• Entries must be emailed to [EMAIL=“[email protected]”][email protected]
• ‘The life’s too short short story prize’ should be written on the subject line of the email
• The short story should be the body of the email. Emails with attachments will not be considered.
• Each entry must include the name, address, telephone number(s) and email address of the writer
• Submission deadline is June 30, 2009

  With the above mentioned aims, it is definitely a step in the right direction but I just have one reservation; the prize money of Rs 100,000 i.e. US $1250 appears like  too meager an amount for a first of its kind Pakistan wide contest. Any suggestions?

I don't think it is an inadequate amount, actually 100K pakistani rupees is pretty decent considering the contest is taking place in Pakistan. The goal of the contest is not to make people millionaire but to recognize high quality writers and give them a platform.

this is a very interested topic and its reality telling about short stories so the life is really very short like above example.
