life is nowadays the other way around

Re: life is nowadays the other way around

People in yesteryears had more time to devote to spirituality...There were no computers, cable, dish, traffic, timetable e.t.c...As a result their mind was devoted to bettering themselves...

How else can anyone explain the emergence of great thinkers and leaders like Buddha, Confucius, Lao-Tze e.t.c. while the Abrahamic faiths produced thinkers like Descartes, Thomas Aquinas, Ibn Taymiyyah and Jawziyya e.t.c...

These people were sought for their spirituality and the void that their works and thoughts could fill in a person's life...People at that time were at peace...

Today, we try to fill the spiritual void with things like partying, drinking, drugs e.t.c....Those things can never fill the spiritual void and instead end up destroying our spirituality instead...Hence the unhappy people...

And the person who is seeking spiritual fulfillment from where spirituality lies is considered a moron...By those who have no spirituality...

Re: life is nowadays the other way around

its not a matter of letting religion solver your problems but rather a feeling that your no alone and that there is someone or something out there supporting you.

and prayer is a form of meditation, your twisitng my words just for arguments sake.

Re: life is nowadays the other way around

If something matters to you, you will make time for it.

Re: life is nowadays the other way around

I’d go back to 1985 so I could have one of those New Wave Flock of Seagulls hairdos.

I don’t think people who practice their given religion are viewed as weird. I think that even in the West, many people have become disillusioned with Christianity and so they’re seeking some sense of spirituality without organized religion. People want to meditate, do yoga, read self-help books. Everyone is basically looking for something bigger than themselves, a higher purpose.

However if a group of people isolate themselves from society in the name of religion that can be viewed as odd. Monks, nuns, priests, Pakistani women (not all). Being a contributor to society and having a religion that makes you a better person is not wierd. Religion should give a person a moral core that enables them to function better in society.

Exactly, religion should not prevent you from making friends and talking to non-muslims in a polite manner. This was actually the way of the Prophet, but you have idiotic conservatives that think that even talking to someone who is a kuffar is haraam. How are you going to spread the deen and message if you behave like that?

Re: life is nowadays the other way around

Yes, I guess things like internet and tv do have a great influence on most of us, who would otherwise be more engaged in reading, writing, studying etc. But it's weird how abnormal that seems to people nowadays.

I agree with the point that religion shouldn't be an excuse to stay away from social life. But on the other hand, if people you know/relatives always end up gossiping and backbiting others and are offended when you ask them not to when you are there, it's better to go visit them less often I think. Then one should try to find others who don't do that or with whom you can reason about such things.

There are people from other religions that do respect Islam and it's very interesting to discuss their religion wiht them and talk about the differences and similarities between their religion and Islam. Unfortunately, there aren't many people like that.

Re: life is nowadays the other way around

Wow, there are many years in history I would love to visit, heehee.

But to stay permanently, would be the time of our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). That way, if you have any questions or doubts about anything you want to know, you can have a straight answer and there is no fear of being wrong, since the Prophet (pbup) knew exactly what was right in each case.

Nowadays, you want to know something, you get like 10 different views, all complete with daleel and then it’s up to you which seems most logical and truthfull. And even when you think you got the right answer, there always remains a small doubt and fear of still being wrong.

It would be nice to have the right info firsthand

Re: life is nowadays the other way around

You obviously have alot to catch up on. Go look up the technological innovations by muslims in the first 1000 years of the spread of Islam.

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Re: life is nowadays the other way around

Yes, sadya, I mean a positive social life. Not one filled with gossiping etc.

Re: life is nowadays the other way around

Yeah I agree with Muniya, prayer is a form of meditation…

And i agree with sadya too, it is weird lol…i think thesedays religion is just a delicate issue in the world…especially in Islam, people who are trying to practice it can even be viewed as dangerous because others who are ignorant and ill-informed think that they are “too religious” now and maybe training to become terrorists…it’s really quite sad, u try to become more religious and ppl think ur weird; and if ur not religious ppl think ur weird too
