Life in Riyadh, KSA?

Hey All,

I shall be Inshalah moving to Riyadh, KSA next week and shall be staying there for at least 1 year.

If anyone of you are residents of this city, could you tell me a little bit about it? The general living, any good places that I must visit? (shopping places, restaurants, hangout etc)

Thanks!

Seriously? No one from Saudi here?

Re: Life in Riyadh, KSA?

There are a bunch of saudi guppies here, but they are usually found in the riyadh/jeddah forum :cheegum:

Re: Life in Riyadh, KSA?

@Khumar: thankyou for mentioning me.

err well life is boring around here.

we eat food and we sleep and we eat some more

but since u are moving here, visit all the malls u come to know of because thats the only thing here. Faisliah mall, kingdom tower, Riyadh gallery.

also u can visit the museum / rides.

Life in general is boring. So dont expect u will be having any life. get a nice internet connection and that way u wont have to worry about killing ur time.:flower1:

oldboy trust me riyadh is so much more fun than Ireland… seriously there’s no worse place than where i’m living right now… riyadh has so many pakistanis you’ll get to know a lot of them and make friends real quick… there’s family parks, fun places to visit, desi food, night life is great (unlike ireland, where everything shuts down at 6  ) … its going to be strict obviously and will take u some time to adjust to it…

i remember it to be a fun place but i don’t live there now so K337’s advice is more relevant probably…

I do have friends living there and they like the place… they dont like the king or some of the policies against foreigners but they are living a good life there…

Re: Life in Riyadh, KSA?

the advantage u will have is u have makkah and madinah here and expect more holidays than from anywhere in the world:phati:
behehe.

And no tax… how koolz dat :khumar:

Fair Enough. As long as there is no Loadshedding and no huge electricity bills, I am cool with it

Noted. At a blog website, someone also mentioned Hayat Mall. Can I visit these places as a single or are they reserved for families?

Which Internet connection is popular over there? DSL, WIMAX etc? Which one shall be better (quality and price wise) ?

Thanks

:k: yeah , dont worry abt load shedding.
well i dont think Hayaat Mall or any mall is just for families .There are a few female only malls but other than that they let dudes hang out.

i use DSL and most other i know use DSL and i am not sure which service i m using.

yeah become a sheikh with all the savings:smooth:

I never thought I would ever hear this  “Riyadh a more fun place than a European Country!” and that too Ireland, country that has produced U2, Cranberries, Corrs :konfused:

Honestly, I have not been able to find any particular fun places to visit. Since I am single, so I guess I wont be allowed to enter any family parks. All I have read from websites uptill now is Malls, Malls and Malls  I have also found out that Riyadh is the most strict city of the Kingdom as it is the base of the Royal Family and Wahabism.

Most of the stuff I find on the internet against the Government is about the women rights. These days, the hot issue appears to be to lift ban on the women car driving.

But no Nationality Madam!

That is where Europe is so much better.

any other european country would be better than here... come n live here if u don't believe me... there's no pakistani shops, not many pakistanis, no desi food, no rides, no theme parks, no huge malls,.... how much sight seeing can u do really... and that is why irish people drink so much, coz there's nowhere else to go at night except pubs...

anyway this is about riyadh... hope u enjoy your stay there. G'luck.

What kind of Sheikh do you imply here? Pakistani Sheikh or the Arab Sheikh? :cb:

Re: Life in Riyadh, KSA?

old boy, U r rite in that riyadh is the most strict place in KSA.
Any ways u will learn quickly how to live here.
Life schedule depends whether u r here single or with family.

Out door activities r difficult here due to very hot weather . If u can make friends quickly u will not get bored here
