Re: Life in Islamabad
sometimes you really get bored living in isb . life here is very slow . and after living in the west you find it moving like a tortoise who never seems to win
Re: Life in Islamabad
islamabad is nice for people who love peace and tranquality and away from city life and dont expect much after 10pm.
I was in lahore all my life before moving to london few years back. I couldnt think of moving to Islamabad from Lahore. cause that doesnt go well. london and lahore have same spirits what you expect from live, historic and cultured cities.
but dont worry, you will be fine in Islamabad, life will feel like somewhat slow.
Re: Life in Islamabad
If you can afford it, get an apartment in Diplomatic enclave.
Membership at Islamabad Club is almost impossible to get these days but a LOT of people go hiking at Margalla track 3, just make sure you do so during daylight hours, its mostly expats, upper class islamabadis and foreigners.
Shopping, well foreign items can be found at Kohsar Market in F6. Everyday things can be found in smaller markets in each sector or at supermarkets in F7 such as seventh avenue or EuroMart in F10. Dont buy big ticket items in Islamabad, as they can be found in Rawalpindi much cheaper.
Islamabad has changed a ton in one year, there is a ton of traffic which causes a lot of headaches but they just opened a McDonalds in F9 park and they are making new roads and overpasses etc so things are definetly changing. Its no longer a dead city and many people miss that.
Re: Life in Islamabad
Dear people,
Now let me add to what you all said about my beloved city Islamabad.
Islamabad is where I was born and have lived for 23 years. It would not be an exaggeration If I say that it is the best place to live in Pakistan and maybe beyond.
Well designed, clean, green, and yes its not boring!
If one wants to enjoy, one can find almost everything of one's interest. I do not believe calling a city with pollution and traffic as lively. My definition of civilized is that people enjoy when its time to enjoy and rest when its time to rest. We don't have to turn our lives upside down and call it cool and lively. Well, atleast this is how I think.
Shopping: Jinnah Super (F-7 Markaz) just has everything - Papasallis, Pizza Hut, 1p 2p, Modrian, Kabuli Restaurant and many more nice places to eat. Biggest bookshop - Saeed Book Bank. Then you have wonderful jewelry shops, and yes women can get really good clothes from Jinnah Super West side...
Super Market (F-6 Markaz) Has KFC, United Bakery (really goooood), soooooo many CD, Movies, clothes shoes shops and everything you can think of; and as somebody mentioned even furniture....
F-8 Markaz...its ok.....has the courts etc and all the lawyers....Dainty's fats food....a wonderful book shop -Darussallaam..
If you wanna go for lower price stuff you can go to "Karachi Company" which is G-9 Markaz. They also have everything...but not my kinda place..
F-10 Markaz is quite good also, however F-11 MArkaz is doing better....
Aabpara is another place for shopping( G-6 Markaz) ....
There are so many parks in Islambad. Biggest being Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9 sector) This place has McDonald's, a horse riding club, MegaZone Club, and it is so big you can get tired of walking.
For recreation....you can go for hiking to the margallas. There are several well maintained trails. Or you can go to Rawal Dam...Is quite nice now.
I would advise you to join some club like Asia Study Group (ASG) and you will discover Islamabad and its surroundings well.
Forgot to mention....... for grocery there are several options...your local sector market or.....try Best Price (like a tiny winy Walmart).... or 7th Ave, or Harolds.
Hope it all helps....
Re: Life in Islamabad
Wow, moving seems like a big adventure. Wish I had an adventure. I'll just get drunk and stumble around like I usually do when bored.
Huzzah!
Re: Life in Islamabad
For those who feel bored in Islamabad, may I suggest you to pick up "The News" daily and turn to the right side columns on the 2nd page. It lists all the activities happening in the city that day. We used to do that a lot when I was there.
The social scene in Islamabad is quiet lively. However, you need to get introduced into those gatherings.
