Hello everyone,
I am moving to Houston. I have two kids age 3 and 1.5 yrs old Mashallah. I really wanted to know hows the life in Houston. I heard there are lots of pakistani and indian there. What areas are good to live which is safe and have a good school district. I also wanted to know about the mosque there. The area which has lots of mosque specially Sunni mosque. Thank you for your help.

Well, thanks for the invitation. My husbands job is relocating him to Houston. It's so difficult to even think about moving. I really hope my kids and us will find good company in Houston.

First off, Welcome to Houston...
Yep. You heard right. There are a lot of desi's here. Actually Houston is tied with Chicago on number 2 for the desi population.
What would you like to know about Houston? Also, where (ballpark) will you husband be working so I could tell you about the good areas. If you don't care and just want to live in a nice area with desi population, markets and restaurants, Sugar Land is top of the list. Also, it has one of the best school district in Houston area. Unlike the other US cities Sugar Land is heavily desi populated and one of the best places to live (I think it was 3rd in the US).
Please ask away and I can try to answer the best I can.....

As Joel said welcome to Houston. Houston no doubt has a lot of Desis. I do feel like it has more Pakistanis than Indians though. Something I haven't noticed in other major US Cities.
There are couple of good school districts & Islamic school options as well (whatever you prefer) We have got plenty of Masjids in every corner of Houston.
Since Houston is huge, your best option is to look at places closer to your husband's work. Because trust me when I say this rush hour commute sucks in Houston. (Excuse my language)

Also 2 extremely Desi areas for grocery shopping/ restaurants worth checking out are 59 & Hillcroft & Highway 6 & Voss Rd.

I will be in houston next week for a wedding around Sugar land area. Also, have heard from a lot of family living in Sugarland area that it is the place to be as far as the school district goes!

The cost of living is relatively low compare to other big cities. There is a large Indian and Pakistani community in Houston. If you don't like cold weather then you'll definitely like Houston. As far as the schools go, you'll just just have to look around a bit, but there are many safe and good neighborhoods to choose from.
