So I was talking to Kaun about human life expectancy in my blog and wanted to do a little search. Its amazing that since the history of modern man, the highest average life span was enjoyed by the people of Medieval Islamic Caliphate. I am not sure why, but I am just quoting the numbers here
Maybe because the Prophet (saw) was teaching how to eat right and exercise…diets were simple and focus was on meaningful life goals not nihari and paye and dawaat
^ Also maybe no matter how much people think that islam is all about jihaad, it is indeed a most peace making religion and hence people enjoyed longer life because there were no witch burnings and public massacres going on during those times.
[QUOTE]
The average lifespans of the elite class were 59–84.3 years in the Middle East.[14][15] and 69–75 in Islamic Spain.[16] However these are likely to refer to modal age at death rather than life expectancy.
“Eat the olive oil and massage it over your bodies since it is a blessed tree.”
“Eat olive oil and anoint yourself with it.”
*“Eat the olive oil and apply it (locally), since there is cure for seventy diseases in it, one of them is Leprosy.” *
Maybe those guys lived long coz they ate olives as people in the Medditeranean do.
I think olives and Salaah (prayer) are the reason, I find people who pray regularly are really happy and content, when I pray I'm on a constant high, like nothing in the world can worry me, I feel like I'm enclosed in this warm protective bubble... otherwise I'm quite vulnerable to depression... I think a healthy spirit are one of the reasons they probably lived long...
Academics/Arts/Sciences would have played a role too, people who don't do nothing with their brains die of alzheimers.
If we followed Islam we'd all live long, happy, content lives... Islam teaches hygiene (tahaarah), prayer (salaah) which destresses and exercises us, forbids us from putting toxins (alcohol, tobacco etc.) into our bodies, teaches us to eat moderately in small portions, to exercise our bodies and brains...
TLK- your stats are a little off, you are comparing the current world averages to that of a particular region at a point in time.
japanese longevity is pretty high currently, so what does that mean?
not focusing on anything else but just that the avg lifespan worldwide was probably lower even in that era, but that region had high life expectancy due to proper nutrition healthcare etc. which is the same today that countries with proper nutrition and healthcare have higher life expectancies.

NO I understand, maybe title was misleading but that is what I meant when I mentioned Era that I am not talking about overall times, I was talking about specific regions.
Buddha lived for about 80 years back in the day and so did many other people who didn't pray or eat olives.
Buddhawas just one person, the article talks about avg life.
I have severe doubts about these figures. The Muslim World in the middle ages didnot have modern medicine. Most Muslims were peasents, surviving on the elements. Remember it was the British and French who built the irrigation system, and introduced modern medicine. In the medieval Muslim World, one third of the population was slaves. Are you really telling me that these slaves lived till they were 80!!! Or the peasents subsiting on there crops, or the artisans.
We get bs every once in a while. I remember Imran Khan saying people in Mughal India had 80% literacy. What a load bs!!!
