I think this relates a lot to the recent Sarah Splendor’s thread in this forum.
We are conditioned to a life cycle which is uniform for everyone, practically.
School → college → grad school/professional school → job/career → family (this can go anywhere actually in this sequence) → kids (also goes anywhere after puberty) → work ass off/pay bills/take pleasure in what interests you → die → burial in grave → after some hundreds of years someone is buried right on top of you.
So what is The Point? Some will say serve God. Some will say follow your dreams. Some will say compete with one another. Whatever.
Isn’t it all just for the purpose of keeping yourself busy in the end?
Existentialism philosophy is taking its toll on me.
My roommate showed me this crew video - a crew coach’s speech to his team. Its posted in video gallery - have a look if you can. Helps one get out of this pessimistic spirit.
i believe in making short-term goals and a long-term goal in life and trying to achieve them...ofcourse it gives you immense satisfaction once you achieve something. One would not be able to achieve everything they desire but thats life.
it keeps you going and the fact that it is something you wanted to do or achieve.
Short-term goals help in keeping you on the track and give you the satisfaction once achieved.
Long-term goal is kind of like a punch line the end of the race thing, so it depends with every individual.
its like taking baby steps instead of taking a make-it or break-it long jump.
Well if ur a religious person then u can seek ur answers in ur religioun. If those answers arent good enough for u, then u can keep wondering abt the point in life without getting anywhere.
I guess if u do not take the religious approach then this is a very individual thing, one persons purpose in life wud differ from another persons. Why do ppl have goals in life, what do they get out of it. Is it out of a sense of obligation towards others that we keep going in that lifecycle u mentioned or are there other reasons for our actions.
If u break the lifecycle and do something completely different, then what wud be the point in that. Why do one thing instead of the other. Hmm depressing really.. sigh
