I’m not sure** if we could call it backbiting since the audience doesn’t really know the person in question**. So it’s like talking about someone anonymous, which wouldn’t end up defaming them as long as we don’t know them. Of course, if people do know the person being talked about, then that would change everything (i.e. be backbiting).

Obviously there’s a difference between genuinely seeking help and advice and just ‘venting’ and letting off steam but I do think sometimes specific details are needed rather than just a vague post from the OP..

I think DIL’s can change the approach they usually adopt to explain there problem. They can make it a general question i.e

And all of us guppies can suggest her the pain killer we suggest to every girl who has one any kind of itch

am more of asking question then making a statement that its gheebat.
