just heard on Dunya News that Lieutenant General Haroon Aslam has resigned and has taken early retirement probably as a protest for being superseded by his juniors.
why do you guys think? is he right to have resigned? wasn’t going to the courts for legal recourse an option?
i think he, he being the senior most general in Pakistan Armed Forces, should have stayed on and challenged Nawaz Shareef for not offering him the job that he was entitled to.

Ummm what since when are we codifying army general's role in choosing service chiefs which is a civilian prerogative? There is something called the civilian supremacy over the military. Lt. Haroon registered his displeasure in a good way and that is his right.

true but aren't civilian governments supposed to respect the army protocol? isn't it the right/traditional/customary way to appoint the chief whoever happens to be the most senior officer in the rankings. Khair...

i can agree with that...
...but, this guy deserved it...he is the one who led operations in swat and brought relative to complete peace there...it is every officer's ambition to climb to the top and this guy has been denied his rightful spot...

My friend democracy will not work if in 60+ years you have just one or two tenures that actually made it to the 5 year mark... And also, its not like the military dictators have any soft corners for the ghareeb awaam, so nothing will improve if they step in right now (which is very evident from their past and the fact that they have a huge chunk in those 60+ years with uninterrupted decades of rule where they failed to do anything good)...

I feel Haroon Aslam would have made a more impressive COAS. Kayani was dull & unimpressive like NS. lacked good oratory skills. reminded me a bit of Musa**

Move on people, there's nothing to see here. It is a tradition that the superseded general resigns/takes early retirement. There's no conspiracy, no "protest", no "entitlement" to the job and certainly no "legal recourse"... it's Prime Minister's prerogative to choose the Army Chief. Enough of the conspiracy theories already.
