ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Monday reiterated its commitment to promote electronic media by issuing license to Geo News English, Business plus, Wikkid plus, ARY shopping Channel, Aruj TV and Asset Plus Channel.
The 49th meeting of PEMRA held here also took various significant decision for promotion of private electronic media in Pakistan. It also granted non-commercial FM Radio license to Government College University, Faisalabad. Besides, PEMRA gave approval for issuance of 81 CTV licenses.
The authority while examining the current status of electronic media in Pakistan, reiterated its commitment to promote and expand private electronic media in the country so that every one enjoys access to information.
The Chairman PEMRA, Malik Mushtaq, resolved to maintain a level playing field for all media operators.
He said for this purpose, license fee for cable TV networks operating in rural areas category was reduced in order to proliferate facility in those areas. Secretary, Ministry of Interior Syed Kamal Shah and other members including Dr. Seemi Naghmana, Samar Minallah, Dr. Najam and Executive Member PEMRA Ahmed Mahmood Zahid.
